WATCH OUT, GEORGE, HE'S GOT A SCREWDRIVER!
following on from the favourite gene wilder film thread (naturally
)...
'harlem nights' (1989) it's the roaring twenties, and pryor is running an illegal gambling joint in harlem - but racist business rivals and corrupt cops conspire to bring him down. eddie murphy, red foxx, della reese and arsenio hall are amongst the top notch ensemble in this sweary comedy.
'see no evil, hear no evil' (1989) pryor and wilder are witnesses to a gangland hit - one deaf and the other blind man - and forced on the run, the killer in hot pursuit. hiller directs them well, with plenty of slapstick.
'brewster's millions' (1985) a remake of an old movie and book, with pryor as a minor league baseball player who, to scoop a $300 million inheritance, has first to squander $30 million in a month... john candy provides solid support, walter hill directs.
'superman iii' (1983) pryor is an under-achieving coputer geek recruited by a scheming tycoon in some plan for world domination or other; the man of steel gets in their way. well, obviously.
'bustin' loose' (1981) ex-con pryor is out on probation, and under his licence has to deliver a bunch of 'special children'
o) from philly to washington. there are japes along the way, and the initially cynical pryor learns important lessons in life, or something.
'stir crazy' (1980) sidney poitier (of all people) directs pryor and gene wilder in a tale about two men wrongly convicted and sent to a prison out west, with added rodeo madness...
'the muppet movie' (1979) a movie! about muppets! and our dicky is... a balloon seller?! possibly not his biggest part, but... it's a movie! about muppets!
'the wiz' (1978) pryor plays the title role in this blackalicious musical version of 'the wizard of oz', which also stars diana ross and the definitely non-kiddie-fiddling m*c*a*l j*c*s*n
'blue collar' (1978) a rare serious role for pryor, who with friends yaphet kotto and harvey keitel gets into hot water at a detroit car factory where they work, squeezed between a repressive management.and a corrupt union. a dark story about ordinary men, directed by paul schader.
'silver streak' (1976) pryor plays opposite gene wilder for the first time in this arthur hiler-helmed romantic comedy thriller set aboard a train.
'car wash' (1976) not big in the plot department, it's still a fun film, about, um, a bunch of chaps working at a car wash (unsurprisingly), with pryor as the preacher daddy rich.
other - please state
