Going back to Barry Lyndon, is it true that Kubrick was burned badly by that? To me it is the last of his top-notch films. Everything that followed was pretty conventional – a well-done horror film, a well-done war film, a well-done but crap um whatever Eyes Wide Shut was: good enough films in their way, with brilliant moments, but in their different ways very safe.

I never liked Barry Lyndon. It's too long and too ponderous, and it's ending is just too ambiguous, and left you feeling unsure of why or what you just watched.
