I happened on the new store by chance and I've only been round the ground floor - think there is a basement too but it's smaller I guess. It's a nice space but doesn't seem as comprehensive as the original store. Be interested to hear someone else's opinion.

If it's smaller it probably can't be so comprehensive. I'll try and drag my daughter in on Saturday and check it out.

It's good but the auld shop inspired more confidence. Having said that if you check their website before going you can see what's in stock and so save yourself a trip by ordering as necessary

    Good to know.
Part of the fun used to be not knowing what I wanted until I saw it :(

Don't know about anyone else, but we can't walk into a bookshop and leave empty handed.

:D I'm afraid my book buying is mainly at charity shops now but, yes, I usually come out with something.

I like buying books but in the areas I buy in I've now got all the easily obtainable books

I work in a library and have at my fingertips the resources of the great libraries of the UK by interlibrary loan for the books of only fleeting interest

Yeh I've a load of books, many of which either aren't held by libraries or are only available to consult in libraries.

Went to Stanfords today. Its a LOT smaller and a suprising number of fiction books. Maybe they had them in the past but I ignored them.

No, if something is held by a library it means they own a copy not that it's on the shelf

Stanford's...did visit the new one the other day. It's a bit out of the way now and it's really lost some of its charm and atmosphere. Perhaps it will improve with age.
as per norm, we left with 3 books.

Aaah its sad that they had to move, but understandable. At least they have survived. I do use it, they stock canal maps, which I repeat buy. Its traditional to keep dropping your canal map in the canal. Not many places sell them.

Do you know why they had to move from the old building?

Money? I guess the old premises cost a fortune in that prime location, with entrances front and back.
