Staines Town 1 Dulwich Hamlet 3 - Tues 2nd February 2016

It was pretty comfortable I think. Didn't make hard work of it. They were bad first half, but they scored after a lapse in concentration at the back soon after the break. They had a short spell of pressure after that but I never worried. Dulwich did what was required. Lovely header by Moss for the third.

Was a bit nippy, but dry as a bone. Good, if firm, pitch.

Oh, and Jordan Brown (not that one) also joined the rabble. Had a good laugh with him about yesterday's mix up. Very nice bloke.

You have ice in your veins, Dunc! I was bricking it until Moss settled it towards the end. Staines looked every bit a side on a terrible, terrible run for the most part but you could see their confidence shoot up after they scored. They're still a poor team (with some decent players) but jittery Dulwich made them look better than they were in the second half. Pretty weird performance at times - a bit too casual mixed with flashes of panic - and the ball was in the air an awful lot, despite the pitch being good.

Three more points though, most importantly, and another class finish from Moss. Nothing against Erskine, but Moss could have had a bagful if he'd started.

My burger at the pub was bloody rank but Champion_hill spoke highly of the gammon.

I can't argue with any of that. Staines are a rip-off club but the bacon cheeseburger I had in the ground was pretty decent.

We really missed Danny's leadership in midfield in the 2nd half. 2-0 at HT it was crying out for someone just to put his foot on the ball and control midfield, given that our midfielders last night are very attack minded it opened up the opportunity for them to run and put pressure on our defence for long periods pushing our play back into our own half.

Yep, Moss would have got a bag full last night if he started.... you could tell everyone was nervous about how the game could go until he got the 3rd

Racks of ribs at the 'Wee and Pee' not bad - with a decent bit of coleslaw.
Certainly would be good to get Danny and Ethan back soon.

I was glad the first goal ricocheted in, it was heading straight for me!

Here's a few photos from last night.

I'm not entirely sure we were given a "huge fright"!
Some of the comments in that report are hilarious. "Adjudged to have brought down" for the penalty - it was a clear bloody foul! So was the free kick for the Moss goal - that defender was very fortunate not to be booked for a crude foul. We did make hard work of it after the break, and the goal clearly lifted Staines' fragile confidence, but although 2-1 is never a secure lead I didn't think they really looked likely to get an equaliser even though we were jittery and conceded a lot of possession in the middle third. If anything we gave ourselves a fright.

Hamlet soon settled down to playing the usual passing game, creating plenty of scoring chances, with Staines only posing a real threat from set pieces during the first half. Two quick goals midway through the half appeared to have knocked the stuffing out of our opponents. Murrell-Williamson fired in an angled drive that looked to be off target until a defender's intervention deflected it well wide of the keeper at his near post. Within two minutes their riight back, already booked for pulling back Murrell-Williamson from behind as he accelerated clear on the wing, lunged in on the same player inside the box to concede a penalty and was lucky not to get a second yellow card. Carew slammed home the spot kick, and at this stage a third goal might have seen or opponents cave in completely as they appeared totally bereft of any of the qualities required to make a fight of it.

However it was still 2-0 as the second half kicked off and just three minutes later an impressively incisive counter attack, after Hamlet had carelessly given the ball away in midfield, ended with a forward latching onto a flicked header and beating Wilson with aplomb from the edge of the box. Staines now had the belief that they could snatch a result without really coming all that close to an equaliser except on one occasion when Wilson came to the rescue, while Hamlet were looking all wobbly in midfield and no longer getting at their defence. The customary raft of substituitons during the final quarter seemed to stablise us, and with six minutes to go Carew delivered a superb free kick from outside the right edge of the penalty box for Moss to find the bottom corner with a glancing header.

An important win with all the other results involving top sides going in their favour. Drage showed no ill effects from his hamstring tweak - I thought he had a superb game - but he's now done his groin!

Team (4-2-3-1): Wilson - Nelson, Drage, Sankofa(c), Hibbert - Carew, Dixon - Clunis, Scannell, Murrell-Williamson - Erskine. Subs: Sow (for Murrell-Williamson), Moss (for Erskine), McDonald (for Scannell), Jarrett, Campbell (not used). Attendance: 260

Haha. Well I just sensed that they had run out of puff after their good spell, which Dulwich weathered. I may be remembering things wrong!

Erskine's hold up play was excellent I thought.

Dulwich Hamlet stay top of the table after chilly 3-1 victory at Staines Town

Can someone explain the new Ooshka Beat song which was sung at this game? What does it mean and where did it come from?

According to B.I.G & Moroccan Sunset a group of Belgian football fans sang it at Champion Hill several years ago? All I know is that when I've heard it before I've thought it sounded bloody great and had a good rhythm - I shan't ever stop singing it from now on.

Ever.

It's got no relevance to Dulwich Hamlet at all...nothing to do with the players or team on the pitch. It's just 'pointless noise'...I can just about cope with songs I don't like, as long as they have a Dulwich Hamlet mention in them, no matter how tenuous they may be.
But, hey, sing what you like, as long as you're happy with it. It's not me singing it! ;)

Well Moroccan Sunset told me - so really he is the only source! That and Griff mentioned it once too!

We should have a tribute song to all our friends mentioned on Wikipedia / Griff.

"The supporters' team have toured all over Europe, and as well as having a friendship with Altona 93 fans, also have links with Red Star F.C. from Paris; HJK Helsinki from Finland, UR Namur from Belgium, the Belgian branch of the Paris Saint-Germain supporters club, Queen's Park from Glasgow and JK Jalgpallihaigla from Estonia."

I liked the Ooshka Beat song. Nowt wrong with it. It fills in a bit of time with some noise.

Bit like the 'Everywhere we go' chant. Totally pointless but quite like it and it can be totally filled in with 'we're pink and blue' all the way through' First heard it at a Crystal palace vs Man City game last season which we left at half time because the footy experience was so depressing (we had watched Dulwich two hours before)

Absolutely right. They sang it at Folkestone away in one of Gav's first seasons in charge. We continued to sing it for a while after and then it sort of got forgotten...

...Until now.

Ushkabeet!

That's more or less how I felt. I remember saying only a few minutes after their goal "I don't think they're going to equalise, but I'd like another goal just to be safe".

Erskine's hold up play was excellent I thought.
Except when he kept getting caught offside! He was on fire in pre-season with six goals in eight games, then pulled his hamstring in the last one. Each time he's come back he's taken a few games to look sharp again, then the injury has recurred. Hopefully he can stay fit and sharp for the remainder of the season. He's a big physical presence who won't get bullied by any defender and reasonably quick and mobile.

Shit, really? Thought he was comfortably the best player on the pitch last night.
Several of us were on the train home with Moss & Drage and he mentioned doing his groin, but he didn't sound especially bothered about it so hopefully not something that will keep him out.
