St Pauli FC

You have to admire the club's marketing strategy. I was in the Herz Blut bar on the Reeperbahn last month and I was almost tempted to buy a St Pauli bobble hat as a souvenir. I soon came to my senses though.

I think you have to admire St Pauli full stop....And all that bollocks about real football fans not liking them.....Maybe there should be some kind of test for people not deemed real football fans....
I know a bloke who wears a st pauli tshirt who didnt even know it was a football team....but so what?
Its a shame that there are not more clubs like St Pauli.....Love to see a left wing club start in London....

Is AFC Wimbledon not the closest thing to Sankt Pauli in London?

You shoulda bought one for your next trip to the Curva Nord. :D

As I said, I soon came to my senses!

They certainly shift some merchandise, you have to give them that.

Simply the 'mirror image' of Lazio, who's ultras and fans market themselves as the right-wing club. The merchandise playing a big part.

No. I think Enfield Town might have a better shout. But neither are exactly associated with left wing politics. And in AFCWs case there dodgy deal with a property speculator to buy another clubs ground hardly makes them the Robin Hood choice.....

They have a football team whose colours are a useful thing to wear if you want to tell everyone how not-racist you are whilst avoiding doing anything useful yourself

Obviously it is better if people are active, but not everyone has the time, energy or confidence to be an activist. If wearing an anti racist shirt is all they feel inclided to do at least they are making a statement and letting the fash know they are not welcome. I dont think getting into a row about who is the biggest anti fascist is productive in any way, it is an attiude that often puts people off getting involved. if people are supportive and that is all they can do then good for them.

As far as the St pauli skull and crossbones is concerned though, i am not convinced it is widely known that it is an anti-fascist statement. They are a pretty obscure team and the skull and cross bones thing is not that obvioulsy connected with football unless you happen to be 'in the know' about these things. I would hazard a guess that if you walked down your average high street with the st pauli crossbones on, only a very small percentage would know what the hell it was all about

Clint hi boss, tonights game was on ESPN

I went to St Pauli v Bayer Uerdigen on the way to Romania 5 Wales 1 in Bucharest, top time mate, fully recommend it. They loved the big Wales flag on the home end

I bloody love Hamburg and had the pleasure of staying in St pauli - and couldnt help but absorb how pivotal their football team was to their district!! i even witnessed a full on army presence including tanks just for a home derby match against Hamburg- the energy of the st pauli fans was electric!!!
