Sri Lankan cricketers attacked and shot in Pakistan

Watching this on Sky now, listening to Dominic Cork. He sounds so shaky.

He's reporting that the fourth umpire was shot in the back and Chris Broad is the match referree and was walking about covered in blood.

Chris Broad was on the bus behind the SriLankan bus, his driver was killed in the attack.
Just appalling stuff.

So far 6 dead Pakistani police/ security.
6 injured SL cricketers, 2 in stable condition in hospital with 4 being treated on site at the stadium.

The Sri Lankan team stepped in to play at the very last minute because the Indian team refused to go because of security concerns.

Somehow the gunmen got away as well. 12 gunmen wearing frickin kevlar and toting grenades, rpgs and machine guns all got away.

I cant believe drivers and police have been murdered for turning up to work today.

Jesus...this is insane. Seems India and Australia were right to not want to play. Terrible loss of life but like others I can;t believe all the gunmen managed to get away.

This is cricket over in Pakistan for the forseeable future and some people's lives over for ever for fucking what? All for some cause that i can't even attempt to understand... Stupid stupid wankers, i hate it. How can you be so stupid that you think killing people and doing awful things is better than enjoying yourself and doing nice things? It's so fucking simple.

Sky news saying the Taliban are pretty much in charge of about a 1/5th of Pakistan and in danger of taking the whole country with the current weak governemnt in charge. Is this correct or is this Sky's own agenda, designed to scare the shit out of us? I know they have a significant presence there, but essentially controlling 1/5th of the country?

There was some confusion on the radio reports this morning, some speculating about pakistanis doing this, others speculating that it may be linked to the unrest in SL. Pretty terrible news all the same, can't see any sporting team of any description in too much of a hurry to travel there for the forseeable future.

But a Pakistani minister, Sardar Nabil Ahmed Gabol, reportedly told private Geo TV that evidence suggested the attackers came across the border from India.

He said the assault came in reaction to the Mumbai attacks, and was a "declaration of open war on Pakistan by India".

Awful stuff for the Sri Lankans but it's the quote above that looks the most worrying.

The Pakistani State has never had control of the 'Tribal Areas' of Balochistan and the NWFP, they inherited a situation off the British where the military control the roads and everything lse is left in the hands of tribal elders.

Terrible business re the Sri Lankan team.

this made me wince

"A bomb disposal expert disarmed an explosive at the site of the attack."

Why would Indians attack Sri Lankans in retaliation for Mumbai? Ok so it was India who were initially scheduled to play but I can't imagine that a group able to organise what looks like a carefully orchestrated attack would fail to realise they were attacking the wrong people. Come to think of it, why would Indians want to attack other Indians in retaliation for Mumbai? That makes even less sense.

Whatever these attacks were about, using them as an excuse for warmongering rhetoric is fucking low.

Fucking cunts - i hate it when Sport is brought into this sort of horrific political terrorism, makes me boil!

 loving the nod to H&S with the hi-viz vest though.

Utter scum who ever is behind this though. And a massive shame as cricket is such a strong force in the region and as people have noted this will probably kill Pakistan as an international player in the game thus leaving the regular people more isolated from the world as a whole and ultimately helping the man on the street into the hands of the more extreme elements :(

Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Dontcha just fucking love the Pakistanis????

:D:D:D

This attack is as likely to be related to the war in Sri Lanka as with the Mumbai attacks.

Galling business all round. :(
