Spurs 2005-6 thread: The Road to Europe !

With that list of our squad I won't say Huddlestone is ready until I see him. I do think Zeigler is ready though as he looked dangerous whenever he played last season and is a year older now.

Left wing is an area where I'm keen to see some competition between Reid and Zeigler. In fact I'd say only Robbo and Ledley are guarenteed to be picked when everybody's fit. We can cover in more or less every area with Zeigler improvising at left back and maybe Reidy going over to the right as he does for Ireland. But the competition for places should be healthy. Who's going to partner Ledley? Stalteri or Kelly at RB? Reid or Zeigler? Which two of Carrick, Davids, Mendes, Tainio and Brown? Mido or Kanoute? Jermain or Robbie? None of those is set in stone.

Also from what I've read our pre-season has been excellent, with Routledge and Mido doing particularly well. I suggest we use this season to build up a team mentality and anything we do gain will be a bonus.

I'm not sure "Champions" League is out of the question as places for that go down to 15th or so don't they? The competition is a fucking joke which is really hurting domestic football.

Looks like Ledley won't play at Pompey, and somone who goes to the training ground says there might also be a problem with Edgar.

None of which should, of course, worry a 'top 6' club . . .

I love following Spurs.

Look! We've signed Korsten/Rebrov/Acimovic/Doobie Duck'n' his disco truck! Europe here we come!

I reckon this'll be a "season of transition" for a change. It's a fucking tradition or an old charter or summat.

Rankin reader eh?

You should be following Brentford mate ;)

Hey, we're only in fourth because "M" comes before "T" in the alphabet. Good result, sounds like we fought for it a bit which is pleasing to hear that we can do that because we had a fair few injuries, most notably Ledley. Good start lads.

Nice start. It's 3 points we didn't get last season, and had we, we'd be in Europe now.

Injuries aren't yet stacking up but the sheer number coud be a concern if we don't get a breather.

Reserves are playing Chelsea away on Monday evening (7.00pm), if anyone's mad enough to want to go to Aldershot.

Otherwise, onwards to Boro at home on Sat - my first game of the season.

Can't bluddy wait !

first win of the season and an away win to boot, good start boys lets hope they keep it up espeically the away wins whixh have often troubled us

Freddie signs for Seville for £4.4 million.

This has to set off a chain of events, imo. We know Jol wants his Dutch leftie, and we know Levy want Jenas. The only problem is Keane is the makeweight for Jenas, and that would leave us with only two established Prem strikers.

Interesting times. I wonder how the plan will unfold . . .

p.e. the reserves beat Chelsea 2-0. I take this as an omen for later in the month . . .

Keane, hmmm

Jenas, oh you can have him, Without doubt our most overrated player. Inconsistent and probably the worst midfielder at the club last season.

He'll fancy London, right next to his partner Darren Ambrose

quick he might be leaving us....If I slate him now it wont matter when he leaves as "I never liked him/rated him anyway"...............

Its a bit like saying "ah bless 'em" and then slating the fuck out of someone

I think he means it's a bit like the Liverpool 'Spice Boys', especially Fowler and Mcmanamanananan - bad, bad, influence on the dressing room.

I also don't like the idea of Ambrose and Jenas teaming up together in London, just hoping the fact they're at diff clubs will make a difference.

Why are we courting Jenas? We don't need a central midfielder as we have Carrick, Davids, Tainio, Mendes, Brown and Davis already and Jenas is certainly not an improvement on the first three. About the only Newcastle player I'd want at spurs is Shearer, but only if we got him 15 years ago.

I've heard Dirk Kuyt is going to sign in the next week so he looks like the obvious replacement for Kanoute, and El Hamdaoui should come back from injury relatively soon having played well pre-season.

Come on fellow yiddos, lets not give "them" *spit* the right to rip the piss even harder when we don't do anything spectacular this season.

I would like this post to be,so I can be exempt from any ribbing this season from gooooooners if we do our usual.
Thread saved........see you in spring 2006 :p

My view: It's not about fitting into our squad. With players of this quality, the squad changes to make room for them.

Either Kuyt or Jenas will be the first sighting of the 'Bergkamp Effect' as initiated by the arrival of Davids - remember how Owen Hargreaves turned us down last summer ? Jenas and Kuyt wouldn't have signed last summer, either.

Davids can provide us with stepping stones to the next level, but we have to be bold in the few transfer windows we have.

I guess we'll all have diff views on Jenas as a player, but I believe that is the thinking/motivation.

Yep, but not so much a replacement imo, rather an upgrading of the weakest striker (of the four) for a top 6 striker.

I think you'll find I've never liked Jenas. I preferred good old Clarence Acuna in the midfield. I don't think Jenas can hack it at the top level.

If Spurs are willingly stupid enough to pay double figures on him, then bless 'em.

One football thing I will agree with you on. I've never been impressed with Jenas.

To be fair, in his first season I saw potential but he's never developed above that. He's stifled. If he is playing the top level he claims to be then he def is no more than a odd bit international

I just want to say, Davids is in the squad for tomorrow, I'm going, and I'm far too old to be this excited !

:D

wweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!

Robbo looked easy with what little he had to do in the first half last night too. Not sure if Ledders is back but I sure hope he is because Boro will give us more problems than Pompey did. Routledge is out so it looks like both Davids and Lennon are making debuts.

Have a good one at the Lane London_Calling. Glory glory.
