Spotify: awesome little music app thingy, free !

There's an add-on in Firefox for Last.fm (called fire fm). Integrates the player into a browser, thus one less website to contend with.

I just got this this evening,
enjoying it a lot apart from the bloody adverts (mainly dull big brother government propaganda ads)

what it has over last.fm is the ability to play whole albums through.
Most last.fm albums have only one or two full tracks, the rest is 30 second samples.

I downloaded it on Friday morning and I've been caning it ever since. The thing I find interesting most about it is that might just rescue the album...as a form. Itunes made listening to individual tracks popular but Spotify gives you the chance to listen to an album in its entirety and appreciate a pre programmed collection of songs.

Yeah I've been using it for the last couple of weeks. It's officially great but man I hate the adverts - I have to turn it down for them.

Just listening to a 32 min long track that I haven't heard since I was about 8 - Rick Wakeman, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. That's the secret of avoiding the ads - put really long songs on

I hate it when you find certain artists have nothing on there at all.
I hope they keep filling up the archive.

Well I thought I would try it - I actually paid 9 for the full version as I didn't have an invite.

Will see if it is worth it.

Certainly I am incredibly impressed with the quality and speed - the underlying streaming technology is obviously very robust.

Normally this kind of stuff doesn't work so well in Dubai - this is flawless.

I have thus far been delighted and frustrated in about equal measures as far as finding stuff on there that I want to listen too, but I am going to stick with it for a few months at least I reckon.

I didn't need an invite. Just straight on.

This is really very good. Currently listening to Lily Allen's new album so I can bad mouth on her the thread above.

Thanks OP i love it:cool:
Not had any ads yet though:D

ETA can you share playlist? How?

Depends how you want to share your playlist - if you want to just send it to someone else to play right click the playlist and copy the address to the clipboard. The address can either be a URL for use in a normal browser or a URI which works in the Spotify client.

e.g

http://open.spotify.com/user/atitlan/playlist/0TQGMBokKlk9KJG3lyDGGt

or

spotify:user:atitlan: playlist:0TQGMBokKlk9KJG3lyDGGt

If you want others to be able to add stuff to one of your playlists mark it as collaborative and then send the link onto whoever you want to access it (I think).

For fellow last.fm users, it would seem that Spotify view their service as complimentary to last.fm as you can scrobble directly from the Spotify client, just set your user and password in preferences.

I don't like it. The library is tiny. They've got fuck all on there.

I suppose it depends what you're looking for. So far I've been more hit than miss in finding stuff, though some artists are obviously missing or have truncated listings - depends on the deals Spotify have been able to strike with the record companies I guess.

Cheers for that mucker:cool:

I'm loving it, the adverts seem to work well as a piss break:D

Thnx again;)

i found if you can't find a song searching by artist, you can sometimes find it by song title...

anyway, still liking it, although not liking the ads too much...

I didn't seem to need an invite - just signed up and I was away. having used it a bit I'm kinda impressed but they do need to build up the library a lot
