Quite a while ago, but I don't see the difference. I still had to hire in lighting engineers, sound engineers (front of house/onstage), PA, roadies, foldback - the fucking works.Orang Utan said:How far in the past?
I see - I'm surprised you don't seem to be aware of the costs involved then - maybe prices have risen at a ridiculous rate.editor said:Quite a while ago, but I don't see the difference. I can't see what's fundamentally changed, to be honest. Putting on a big show always means a ton of work, although it's obviously going to be easier with DJs than bands.
!
Again, I haven't called anyone a 'moneygrabber.'Dubversion said:spamming isn't OK, but it doesn't mean you're a fucking moneygrabber.
It's a lot lot cheaper to put on DJs than bands.Orang Utan said:I see - I'm surprised you don't seem to be aware of the costs involved then - maybe prices have risen at a ridiculous rate.
Not necessarily.editor said:It's a lot lot cheaper to put on DJs than bands.
You haven't but you have been insinuating it by continuing to mention 'commercial events' in 'corporate venues' in very partisan terms. You may view things in that way, but I see them a lot differently. If you can't see it from my (and many others') point of view, let's agree to differ.editor said:Again, I haven't called anyone a 'moneygrabber.'
Again, you're projecting your interpretation of my words back at me, but it looks like you're never going to get my viewpoint, so I'm happy to leave it too.Orang Utan said:You haven't but you have been insinuating it by continuing to mention 'commercial events' in 'corporate venues' in very partisan terms. Hire an international techno DJ and you are looking at £600-£1500, plus flights and hotel.
Even a domestic lesser known techno DJ might set you back £300.

There's less of 'em for starters!
Sure. But a 4/5 piece band - who may also be using live samplers and laptops - may also need microphones, backline mics, DI boxes, foldback, foldback mixing, drum risers etc etc...Disco Squirrel said:There is still alot of equipment to set up, especially if someone is doing a live set with laptops and samplers etc.
'Cos there was a bunfight to be had!rutabowa said:bah, i put up a thread asking if people would come to this same night with me and got about 5 replies... then this thread comes along and gets to 5 pages! why is that? why??
