Splinter Cell - Double Agent

but all the impartial experts are saying that when compared there isnt that much graphical or gamplay difference between the 360 and the PS3. So when it is finally released it is just going to show of the fact that sony want you to pay tons of money for somthing that isnt that much better and wont have the a decent back catalouge setup like the 360 will have by then. I plan on buying both but from what i have heard there is not that much difference its going to be all about the games. and splinter cell double agent is amazing looks so good im going to have to try it on my mates hi def tv going to be great.

I reckon...

... if the Xbox 360 and PS3 had near simultaneous launches, then it would have been strictly a one horse race, with consumers unanimously opting for the PS3 solely because of Sony branding.

As it is now, the 360 will have had a years head start in the market before the PS3 comes out in Asia. By the time the PS3 comes out in Europe and America, the 360 will have had almost a 18 month head start. Because of this, and because the high price of the PS3, I reckon it'll take a lot (AAA PS3 exclusives, a sub-£250 Christmas 2007 price tag, an online service that is at least as good as Xbox Live) for Sony to make up lost ground.

I think it'll only be the Asian market where the PS3 will be the clear market leader in a few years time (that is if the massively underpowered Wii isn't).

So I just bought Splinter Cell: Rogue Agent......

I have never played a Splinter Cell game before, despite everyone raving about them.

I have just finished the first level, and my initial impressions are:

"meh"

It's Ok I suppose but I am finding it just takes too much trial and error to do anything - bit frustrating really, there is not much flow to the gameplay.

The controls are a little clumsy too, as are Sams movements.

The graphics are alright - nothing special, and nothing really next-gen.

Lets see - Level 2 now......

I have played all the splinter cell games and i enjoyed the first couple of levels but i admit there wasent anything that amazingly new in them. But the start of level 4 just blew me away and the game is really starting to get interesting throwing in some cool new moves and playing in a completly new and interesting enviroment. :)

I am on the Ship now......

Still finding it a very stop-start affair with no intuitive and flowing game play:

Creep, find a baddie, get detected.

Start again, memorise where the bad guy is, take him out/avoid him, find another bad guy, get detected.

Start again, deal with the first guy, then the second guy, then..........etc, etc

I am finding every time I start to enjoy it, I just end up playing the same 30 seconds over and over and over until I get it right and start to get bored.

It's Ok I guess.

i dont play like that but it might be because i got used to the way that the game is designed from playing the first three so much. I
t seems to flow for me its about getting into a decent mind set for pre-empting where to go hide and kill from.
It was breif but i thought the sky dive was quite fun nice to experiance somthing in a game that i had never done before and i thought that the ice smash kill was a cool move.

Well I have lightened up on the stealth bit and I am killing/disabling more dudes, so I am not having to save and restart quite as much...

I am still playing mostly out of bloody mindedness having shelled out 30 quid rather than out of fun.

Still finding it annoyingly unforgiving, inconsistant and slow going, still restarting a hell of a lot and still only occasionally enjoying it.

Splinter Cell: Advanced Save Game Simulator...

;)

Jebus fucking wept.....

I am just playing the same 5 minutes of game over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over trying to get it right/get past it.

And again.

Oh and again.

This Sam Fisher guy is rubbish.

:(

Keep your eyes out 360 owning Urbanites, there may be a good as new copy of Splinter Cell going cheap real soon.

Well thats what I am comparing it to.....

ALthough many aspects of Metal Gear were not all that great - story, dialogue etc (all areas with SC seems to do well in) the gameplay was a lot more intuitive and flowing - you could wing it a lot better and come out on top rather than having to meticulously plan every 5 foot that you move.......

Well I am sure you are all bored of my blow-by-blow account of my first Splinter Cell experience, but I don't care.

:p

Having been enraged to the point of joypad throwing (which incidently in these days of wireless pads is far more destructive to both pad and the stuff it hits) I then proceeded to have a great 30 minutes of gameplay, where it all came together and I was sneakin' n' killin' like a goodun.

It is just infuriating that during some portions there really does seem a rigid "right" way to do it, and deviation from that route is usually fatal, whereas in some portions it is free-flowing, wing it, play it any way you want to.

Working out whether any given section is the former or the latter seems to be where most of my frustration stems from!

Ach well.......

yeah it would be cool if the made it a but more freeform or a least give you a bit more choice in some of the the sections.
But i think if they go to freeform it would be a bit easy the first two were even more strict with conditions like only being a loud to have 3 alerts then you fail and more missions where you couldt kill any one and if you did you would fail the mission so its getting better.

On a related and curious point: anyone played the multiplayer in a SC game? I've liked the idea but never had the chance to...

Yeah I played Chaos Theory multiplayer which is similar to the Double Agemt multiplayer demo on the 360 marketplace now. Mercs v spy's. Quite entertaining, very cool being a spy sneaking about doing mad moves.

I think I'm gonna save my cash for Rainbow Six Vagas, been playing the demo today and it's great! Get downloading 360 owners.

Only in the demo, and it was pretty decent!

Haven't tried it since I got the full game.
