those names don't seem familiar... but i hadn't really heard of the people on in the first half except for Vic Chesnutt and James Yorkston. Basically everyone in the first half was brilliant, really interesting, then everyone in the 2nd half was lame (Teenage Fanclub and Jason Pierce). Then Daniel Johnston came on and blew everyone else away, he was really amazing. Everett True's comepering was excellent too actually, he just came on and sang acapella songs in his "unique" voice.
that white-and-blue covered record (ladies and gentlemen we're floating in space???) nicked the central theme from a very famous piece of classical music...don't remember what it's called though, as i sold the cd instantly upon realising it bored me...
they steal everything. the first song on Floating is Clive Dunn's 'Grandad'. the line about "a hole in my arm where all the money goes" is nicked from John Prine. etc etc etc
the second most irritating thing about people stealing your own creative ideas/work, trying to pass your ideas off as their own,
is people trying to steal your friends...to get influence among the "right" crowd
i've had both happen to me...and it stinks
and also:
i mean, i'm against full copyright and support filesharing and making my work available to the public for free, etc. etc.-
but that doesn't mean i think it's "okay" if some people try to blatantly STEAL what i've done and try to take credit for it!
some common courtesy/manners is the unwritten rule in the artmeme territory! (rant over)
hmm, i'm not sure if that guy from Sparklehorse played then, unless he was playing with James Yorkston... Howe Gelb was excellent, a bit like Tom Waits. the whole first half was a little shambolic and unrehearsed but great.
