Your palate may mature one sonny.

If we're talking about palate I'd rather sip on some nicely mellowed 25 year+ single malt than the sickly sweet produce of distilled cane sugar thanks.

Ghastly stuff. Almost as bad as brandy.

Surely that totally negates the point?

Not if it makes you feel confident, chatty and full of energy, but without feeling drunk. Drunk like you would feel if you had drunk a similar amount of some other spirit and you can't stand up straight. Not a feeling I like.

The last time I drank good whisky I remember thinking 'this is what good cocaine must feel like' :D

Aye, because fermentation in 25 year old rums leaves their essential sugariness intact, doesn't it? Mmm, I prefer a bit of fermented barley or corn rather than sugar cane.

Nonsense, isn't it. Rum's brewed on an industrial scale as well, but often to a higher integrity and sourced simplicity than blended cheapo scotches. And the bst of rum is matured and kept in conditions very similar to the best of vintage whiskys.

vodka's very good in white russians or moscow mules or in other cocktails, but when it's just vodka and coke or whatever i can leave it, cheers.

shane macgowan said that brandy was the drink to watch out for, if you got on a brandy habit it would send you mental and kill you... so i will go for that.
