Spillers Record Shop in Cardiff may close

But Nep,if you hate the SWP so much, why should you give a shit what they do with the printshop? And what's it got to do with nwnm's views on Spillers?

Perhaps the SWP should take over Spillers. I think there is a market niche waiting for a Trotskyite record shop selling obscure vinyl to old swingers.

A very good idea but as many Islamic scholars are of the opinion that music is haraam it must follow, given that in the words of SWP members 'we are all Hizbollah', that selling such records is Islamophobic. :p

Should that be "Islamophonic"?

Excellent - that means I'm Welsh too now.
7 years I've put in to this country (and this beer belly)

Thank you for your help with the local pie and beer economy :)

We want more West Country boys over here !

thought i'd add my little bit, a bit late but hey,
spillers is great, i almost refuse to buy CDs anywhere else. Trouble is im a cheap arse when it comes to buying CDs as i always seem to have to repair my bike and i end up downloading music... I no i no....

but when a band, usually something thing a little obscure releases something, or i wana buy a punk cd or some rock'n'roll you cant be spillers.

the hole experience is great, nice setting, wonderfull music always being played, staff are helpful, and they always sell tickets for tj's, etc.

also last time i went in i spent over £30 rather than just the £8 for the one cd i origonally went in for. as good as it'd be for my wallet,

spillers would be missed.

i'll be so gutted if spillers closes.i've made a point of bying all my stuff from there for the last 6/7 years ,but i do download everything i listen to now.
i think it's about time i popped in and bought a shit load of stuff for old times sake.:(

Just got a t-shirt and a record (oops, CD).
They've just started doing hoodies, too, in case anyone's interested.

Save Spillers!

How's this for a charmer of a quote form the landowners:

"If you walk down Oxford Street, you do not see niche record stores among the chains. We warned Mr Todd [Spillers] that he is standing in the way of progress. The rent in their present location will at some point be unaffordable."

Cunt.

are they 4real!!
i don't think they wanna go down that route really, snobby twats
bound to rile a whole range of people that language

Progess!!! Fucking Progress!!! All they'll do is stick another fucking Starbucks there. Hows that fucking progress you stupid cunt!!!!

I notice that Spillers featured on the BBC's latest edition of "The Culture Show". It won one of their plaques for locations of special cultural significance (or summat) due to its long history. Quite a nice interview with James and Nicky from the Manics talking about how cool the carrier bags are! I doubt whether the plaque will be put outside, though - I don't think it would survive a typical Kairdiff Saturday night.

Of course, if the council got its head out of its arse, the whole place would be listed & celebrated as a unique tourist attraction.

Reminds me of what Aberdare Council did with Queen Mary's cottage (a terraced house that had been visited by Queen M. and had not been significantly altered since then) - would have made a perfect location for a little museum of mining family history, but the twats allowed it to be sold to the club next door to be turned into an extension to their toilets.

I didn't see the Culture Show but they're right about the bags - they're lush. They don't automatically give you a bag now though - they ask you if you need one (cost-cutting I expect) and look grateful if you say you don't. Tragic.

Their mugs are lush too, a good addition to any crockery cupboard. And they're cheap as chips. Buy one soon, go on.

I used to work in a record shop & they're normally staffed by absolute felchers.

Either snobby music anoracks or students who dont know their Anal Cunt from their elbow!!
