Spare a thought for the influencers

With the greatest of respect there's stress and then there's the kind of stress that comes from knowing that if you don't do your work properly then something other than your own bank balance will be materially different as a result.
I'll be sure to tell everybody not changing the world with their career that their stress is not sufficiently worthy enough for you.

Make a youtube video about it. Real gap in the market for those.

Maybe a song:

No-one knows what it's like, to be the ad man
To be the sad man
Behind the mic
No-one knows what it's like, to be rated
To be fated
To chasing facebook likes

But my job, is just as stressful, as a doctor or a nurse
Even though, when I fuck up, no-one ends up in a hearse

Etc...

Ultimately they’re sales people. Being a good sales person is a skill, some are much better than others. What I find hilarious are the ones who will share something about the environment or whatever to ‘look good’ and in their next story they’re flogging yet another product full of plastic and other crap. No different to any big company or whatever but when you see it on such a micro level the silliness of it is really highlighted.

Are you throwing anyone who essentially provides entertainment under this particular bus?

No bus here. I don't give a shit what people do with their time. But if they have what is ultimately a very fucking cushy job indeed and they still choose to whinge about being stressed at a time when people who do not have cushy jobs are dying at their posts...well I don't feel too awful about a little light sarcasm at their expense.

Who's whinging? I'm a librarian, am I allowed to get stressed at my job or is it still not sufficiently worthy enough?

What's the definition of 'actual work' then?

I suppose we should look down upon anyone who's despicable enough to have found a way of doing things they enjoy and also getting paid for it.
You havent really understood how their " Shtick" works. They get paid by various people or corporations to promote product whatever but to deny they are advertising. They are not playing some clever scam aginst those funding, they are deliberatly lying/disguising in order to sell stuff. The scam is directed at their followers

You can report them to the Advertising Standards Authority. Most professional influencers, Youtubers, streamers etc. are well versed in how to disclose sponsorships and advertising. There are legal penalties for those who don't.

I can remember some of these entitled so and so's demanding free top class hotel stays in exchange for positive mention on their channels. In the case I recall, they were refused which caused all sort of ructions.

Old people hate these youtube channels because they've paid for their "Which?" magazine subscription for the past 60 years and know that there will be some "Best Buys" in stock at John Lewis where they are "never knowingly undersold". They are absolutely certain that they bought the best value 1950s styled "internet radio" that there is.

They can't get their heads around the idea that the audiences for those channels might have some ability to understand how things work and what biases might be at play.

Personally I think youtube reviews are great - if you know how to navigate them with a little care. Not everyone has the skills for that. I do of course.

I feel like there's a huge difference between 'people who produce YouTube content' and 'influencers'. As others have said, the former are just like any entertainment and/or informative role. The latter, as is my understanding, seem to be more about promoting themselves and getting as much as they can out of sponsors and their audience.

Both can work hard, but the goal is different.

I watch a lot of YouTube channels, and (IMHO, of course) it's no different from watching TV or listening to the radio. You've got decent people who want to put something creative and/or informative out into the world, and you've got self-involved dickheads who are in it for themselves.

Yep you are correct. For example there is also a difference between posting genuinely informative and well written travel blogs compared too what gets put out on Instagram etc. (Largely - not everyone.)

She’s just not that bright, and she’s not thought it through :D I mean technically yes love there are 24 hours in the day you are correct to say that :D
Eldest Q (happily briefly) had a boyfriend who thought very similar to that, he managed to get a law degree from Oxford purely on the basis of his own hard work and having wealthy parents who had sent him to a private school and hired tutors when he needed them was purely a co-incidence. He managed it so he couldn't understand why others couldn't do the same.

Poor thing :(

Elle Darby's apology video is probably the least apologetic video I have ever seen. She spoke more about her own hurt feelings than that of the people she directly targeted. She looked pissed off that she had to film it. Such ingenuity.
