Spain v England

g force, I'm considering putting a large sum on a Spanish world cup. Do you think they can do it?
Of course they can. Technically they could have done so a few times in the last couple of decades, but a combination of lack of self-belief and, on occasion (2002 WC game against South Korea in particular) daytime fucking robbery, they didn't get as far as they should.

This team, with this quality and now self belief? I think they should certainly be the favourites to win it.

Yeah they were absolutely robbed in WC 2002. That was a total disgrace, and a good reason why Korea shouldn't be anywhere near being a candidate to host in 2018.

2004 they seemed to choke, and 2006.

Thing is, we've always known spain had loads of class players, it's just that they always seemed to choke or not have the self belief as you say.

Now they've finally hit on it, I think they will dominate every tournament for the next 4-6 years. They combine the best of south american with the best of european organisation.

am i the only person who thought england looked alright got the first 15-20 minutes. it might jsut be that that was how long ti took spain to decide they were in a game but they looked reasonable.

It's always been like this with england though hasn't it. We beat croatia 4-1 last month and suddenly we were world beaters, now we're hopeless again.

It's fucking stupid.
Yes, that's always been the problem with the attitude towards England, certainly from the press but also from some fans. Win a game = heroes and World Cup champions-in-waiting.
Lose a game = useless overpaid primma donnas that shame the country.

It's bizarre.

Yeah we did look resonable spain looked class though and thats why we lost.

But rooney, rio and gerrard are all to come back into the squad which im sure would have made a big difference.

rooney, heskey, defoe are all definatly above him in the pecking order and i would perfer gabby abanglahor or crouch as the 4th striker rather then owen.

no need for owen anymore.

Having a good season especially considering how shit newcastle have been this year but he has lost pace and there are better options.

dave

lol you're really shit. defoe, ffs. :D

Michael Owen is shit, he's done nothing for years, any chance he had to develop as a player was wasted sitting on the bench at Real and then on his laurels at Newcastle were it would appear he's happy to be paid a small fortune lowering his handicap and poaching the odd goal to win a MoTD doggy biscuit from that boring geordie cunt Shearer.

Nah his game has changed loads. He helps out the midfield a lot more and makes killer passes. He scores more with his head these days. If England were losing with 15 minutees to go they'd want him on the bench. He may not be the player he used to be but he's still a proven top class goalscorer. he's shown that by scoring a goal every other game for us despite us being shite. Crouch? Cole? Defoe? Fuck off.

You might be right, I haven't followed his career with much interest, but maybe he has morphed into a Rooney like genuis in his time on the tyne.

I doubt it though.

p.s. yes I noticed he's been scoring more with his head than his feet of late but I assumed that's cos he doesn't have the pace to get in behind defenders anymore.

I don't know why everyone is moaning/gloating about England getting beat by the current European Champions, especially when they put out a team aimed more at giving Capello a chance to look at different players than at beating Spain. The amount of whingin miserable gimps and gloaters out to shit all over the English team (and english football in general) in order to present themselves as more intelligent, knowing, and cosmopolitan has now reached a critical mass over the stereotypical jingoistic white van driving muppets who they are so desperate to distance themselves from and is if anything more annoying.

Spot on revol.

Some fucking daft England fans about (on here too which I'm a little surprised about for some reason :hmm:).

Also, anyone else cringe when the fans start singing GStQ and Rule Britannia?

You don't speak for me, cunts.

Spain were far more up for it than I thought they'd be and are are fucking ace, what a midfield and front two, if they don't win the WC I'll be surprised.

Good to see Capello having a look at a few players in case of injuries which is what these mid friendlies are for.

Just a friendly though doesn't matter at all really in the great scheme of ting (which is qualifying for starters).

p.s. yes I noticed he's been scoring more with his head than his feet of late but I assumed that's cos he doesn't have the pace to get in behind defenders anymore.

He's still got pace and gets behind defenders, just not the blistering pace he used to. And he's better than Rooney. ;)
