are you on the wrong thread Wolfie? :D

well I read on this thread, with shock and mounting disbelief, that spaghetti didn't grow on trees - then, on going to prepare some comfort food to ease the disquiet, I read on my pack of fish fingers that they are not, in fact the fingers from fish, but they are made up of prime cod fillet!

my whole world has been rocked today ....

Yes. It's a squash, and not a great one. Clue, name.

Shall we do capers now?

Capers are actually the testicles of large fish...

You're joking

I suspect you're trying to wind me up :o

Bastards!

"Capers are the small unopened buds of the Mediterranean bush, Capparis spinosa L. (syn. Capparis rupestris) which belongs to the family Capparidaceae (or Capparaceae) . It is closely related to the cabbage family, but the plant is more reminiscent of a rose bush. Capers are usually pickled in vinegar and used whole or coarsely chopped in recipes or as a garnish. "

anything that you're wondering about baldrick?

If you feed the birds peanuts from the garden centre, the local squirrel usually buries one or two in your plant pots, and then you get a peanut plant. They aren't entirely hardy though so it is better to grow them indoors.

Actually most garden centres sell peanut growing kits for kids, they come with a little pot and a nut or two and maybe some compost. Much fun. Although I think I forgot to water mine or killed it by some other method. :o

Did their alternative name - Groundnuts, not give you a clue? :p

I didn't know that was their other name, and didn't know they grew underground :o

BUT I haven't read the rest of this thread yet so am half expecting to see a later posting saying that peanuts growing underground was just a joke :D

Cashew%20Plant.jpg

you see cashews growing in goa. there are only a few on each tree, which is why they're comparatively expensive. they look like marraccas that someone has thrown into a tree - very odd.

most people know, but jezza didn't, that vanilla comes from orchids:

My grandfather used to tell a story from his days at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (as it was then). Somebody in the department drew up a new economic plan for one of the Caribbean islands, a major exporter of nutmeg, which fetches quite a good price, and mace, which doesn't. This recommended that said island should greatly increase its production of nutmeg and decrease its production of mace.

Mace is the outer shell of the nutmeg...
