Southern Boogie Classics

well no, but they've definitely absorbed some of the style, especially stuff like Molly's Chambers

Yeah, they'd sing anything given to them;)
Am trying to think of some current examples. Am sure someone like The Dexateens, Lucero or Two Cow Garage have done some southern boogie revivalism in their time but cant think of names of tracks ottomh.
Think there might even be some in early Black Lips output in amongst the garage.

Class album, class tune.

Loads of their covers looked like this. Very, very metal.

ive decided to get sozzled so i may use this thread a lot tonight el jefe.

its a good'un. :D...

i said el jefe when i typed it just then, i totally sounded like a columbian drug dealer.

A couple I like:

Katie Webster-- Black Satin from "The Swamp Boogie Queen"
Ry Cooder-- Texas Bop from the soundtrack to "Alamo Bay"

Dunno where they're from but don't The Black Crowes veer into this sort of territory? 'Southern Musical Thingy Wotsit'. Is that the sort of thing you're after, Geoff?

My Morning Jacket go off in that vein a bit, too.

Now.

Scathe me for my ineptitude, Geoff, you know you want to. :D

'My Morning Song' off that album's a cracker. Got a great gospel section on it.

I saw them at Glastonbury around then and really enjoyed it. They reminded me of the Allman brothers a lot - two lead guitarists. Great while it lasted - they went all 'Indian Rugs and 19 minute solos' after that and I never really clicked with them again, sadly.

Black Crowes are rank, My Morning Jacket are (or were) absolutely wonderful.. although they've gone a bit wrong now

Pretty much anything by Stevie Ray Vaughan; "The House Is Rocking" wouldn't be a bad - if southern bookie Shakin' Stevensesque - place to start.
