South Park Vs the Simpsons

I wonder if it had not been for the Simpsons, would there have been a South park at all, surely SPs just a continuation of it pushing the humour a bit further?.

Both have there dodgy episodes, earlier simpsons was well, better than the latest ones, but after 20 seasons its not surprising its slipped a bit. Latest south parks have shown they can be equally dodgy however, taking one single shite joke and making it last an entire episode.

Overall Simpsons > South Park
Both have some excellent episodes tho.

Simpsons has given me more belly laughs but then has been running longer.
South Park humour is a bit darker which I like a lot.

I never liked the early seasons - they were too gross out for my liking (a talking shit, etc).

However, now it's gone all topical I like it a lot.

Though I don't what seasons I have seen as they all seem to be quite randomly on various channels.

Right now at this point in time -

Simpsons - occasional smile, but mostly sadness at how it's gone downhill

South Park - combination of laughing and saying "Oh, that's so wrong".

Family Guy - probably the most belly laughs (due to the slapstick nature), but can irritate with their 'drawn-out' sequences.

See I really like Family Guy and Futurama but they tend to be less popular than SP and TS...

Ditto, shame Futurama ended when it did, not counting the giant fail that was the last 3 tv movies. Half an hour episodes worked infinitely better as it didnt feel like it was being unnecessarily drawn out. Good thing about Futurama was the near limitless possibilities of the world they set it in, hanging onto one thing for an hour and a half didnt really work.
American Dad is another one thats rather well done.

Family Guy - probably the most belly laughs (due to the slapstick nature), but can irritate with their 'drawn-out' sequences.

Definitely, some briliant moments, but the example the Peter hurting his knee and going aaah for what feels like 4 days. Then repeating the same sequence this season with Lois and her boob.

The memory of Futurama has been forever tainted by those awful recent TV movies they did. :(

This is the tricky thing though.

I really loved Futurama but agree the longer recent ones are less good.

Simpsons was the first big primetime cartoon and some of the classic moments still crack me up even when I am just thinking about them.

South Park does push boundries and is topical too so strikes a chord.

Family Guy has the balance for me at the moment.

This will change..

(not seen American Dad yet)

With The Simpsons, I'm unsure if it's a new episode or a repeat and the opening theme is the most annoying, makes me think of sunday hangovers - where I'm 3/4 unconscious trying to find the OFF button on the remote...yuck.

South Park I love. Cartman is in all of us.

Man Bear Pig. Warcraft. China Problem. Satan's Birthday Party. The one about people from San Fran who love the smell of their own shit.

Man, they all rock.

Never got into Family Guy - (notice how they show Family Guy in South Park too?).

Also South Park relying on shock means that they mostly aim for 'shock laughs' which does lose a bit of cleverness that the Simpsons needed to have in order to get away with it being a 'family show' but appeals to adults.

49 posts. I just wanna say "gutted madusa" and then let the fun recommence. Anyone need a drink? Crisps? Vol au...crisps?
