Soup from a tin

It's quite time-consuming - I often have tinned soup for my lunch - I don't have time to make it AND my tea

Maybe it's just my soups but chucking stuff in a pan and letting it simmer for 15mins before liquidisation takes v.little actual time

i.e.

Chucking stuff in pan and boiling kettle - 2 minutes
15 min simmer
liquidising with hand blender - 30 seconds

Go on - you know you want to! ;)

It's a question of storage too!

If you're talking about "pimping" tinned stuff then my vote goes for crushing up a bag of worcester sauce crisps and mixing it in with some cream of chicken - heavenly!

Hmmm - Mrs SFM makes soup the night before and sticks it in a jam jar in the fridge to take to work the next day. Don't really do the freezing in bulk bit since it's all about using up old stuff! (unless they've got a freezer in work you could colonise with frozen bags of soup? :))

It must be a massive jam jar!

Like today: I'd got a tin of Sainsbury's Organic Leek and Potato soup, but I cooked mushrooms and sweetcorn in (vegan) butter, with garlic and turmeric, then added a pack of those quick cook stir fry noodles, then added the soup, and a dash of dark soy sauce for good measure. Nice with some strong cheese crumbled in too.

well VP, if you're going to do all that work why not just make it totally from scratch instead?? it'll only take a bit more work :p

I sometimes compulsively pick up a container of posh soup as I'm on the way to the tiny chocy dessert tubs down the aisle.

Feel very noble until the third monster wedge of granary that I always seem to 'dress' the meal with.

I eat one of these for breakfast sometimes.

It's bigger than a regular can, and I find it quite filling, even without adding anything.

One way to increase the nourishment value of a tinned soup is to break an egg into the saucepan you are heating it in. The little bits of cooked egg white that are seen in the soup make no difference to the taste or texture but give you more food value.

Look everyone - maybe I didn't have the necessary ingredients to make soup from scratch. Hmm, did ya think about that, eh??? Eh??? :hmm:

Plus, I don't have a stick blender, only a big fuck off massive pour it in, get it everywhere, never want to wash it, thing. The last thing on my mind when I wanted a nice quick bowl of soup was popping down argos to buy a stick blender, stopping off at the market to buy some veg, then getting started on it.

And anyway - just how long do you lot think it takes to fry some mushrooms? 15 minutes? More like 5 tops in a bit of butter. Added the soup and noodles together, took another 3.

So :p
