South London seems to have a lot of big parks but North does have Hampstead Heath and the River Lea Country park.

Only lived here for just over two weeks and havent been south of the river yet, so its north by default for me.

I bet South of the River has more greenery than North :p

Clapham Common
Wandsworth Common
Streatham Common
Battersea Park
Wimbledon Common
Kennington Park
Tooting Common
Burgess Park
Richmond Park

kinda agree. Though maybe not that stronga dislike for sarf London - it is me hometown.

I'm a big Hackney fan. And I'm rather liking Tottenham and it's surroundings at the mo.

I've been discussing this issue with a mate for quite a while and the cheeky bastard sent me this link today.

So I decided to quiz urban lot. Generalisation aside, which in your opinion is better - north or south london? and why?

Your mate obviously hasn't read the whole feature. South London wins by quite a margin.

the timeout article said pimlico was in south london

i'm just used to the north, the buses, tubes, trains, can get me home from most places in the north fairly quickly, and a shed load of nightbuses head hackney way

Brockwell Park has magnificent views over London. OK, so it's not as big as Hampstead Heath but at least we get concerts, Gay Pride, Country Show, Cannabis Festival - well we used to :(

Gay Pride hasn't been there in a long time and when it was, it meant having to march past Jesus freaks who'd wave their bibles and shout abuse at you all the way from Brixton tube to the park. During the time Gay Pride was held in Brockwell Park three friends of mine got gay bashed on the way back, one of them had to be hospitalised.

Having said that I also think this North/South divide is a load of provincialist bollocks. If want to make the most of London you'd do best to appreciate both.

I appreciate South London alot cos I grew up there but after years of being snobby about north london, I went there and discovered what a great place it is.

Yes, well Brixton's always been full of bible bashers :D Was Kennington Park any better?

Another vote for North. I venture South frequently, my best mate lives off the Old Kent Road, but always feel relieved when heading back over London Bridge.

Yes, but it DOES have a South postcode :p (even if it is north of the River)

i know, but when i worked there, it was definitely north of the river....post code craziness

north london, by far.

although i grew up in west london which is 'orrible and i'd never willingly choose to live there. east is better than west, by far. west london's crap for transport, i'd get on a local bus and they would all be heading out to greenford, slough or hayes. but you get on a bus in east london and you can get into the centre of town or the city no probs

South London  I have lived South all my life, i cant imagine living anywhere else. When i do go North i appreciate the buildings and the little bijous (sp) shops and all the pretty sparkly things but i am always happier when i get back across the river. I will go to things that are north but thats because i have some wonderful mates that side of the river and so i am prepared to cross the imaginary boundry to see them if they are willing to do the same once in a while. Brixton is the one place that totally captured my heart, its wonderful and beautiful to me, even the bits that others may hate i love because it makes Brixton the place that it is. :)

AWwwwwwwwww me it has to be southhhhhhhhhhh!!!

i walk around brixton streatham, camberwell clapham anytime of the night always feel safe cause i know bare peeps about dere still!!!

but as the saying goes "FUCK NORTH WHEEZY SOUTH RUN TINGS!!!"

I've ended up in South London, more by accident than design. I have no desire to move north though. :) Also as of NYE, Unsound is in Camberwell, which swings it for me by itself.

I'm a sarf east London girl from growing up, but living in the east atm. I do prefer the south, but that might be cos of familiarity coupled with a dreadful sense of direction. Anything north of Islington needs an A to Z and a valium.
