I've been discussing this issue with a mate for quite a while and the cheeky bastard sent me this link today.

So I decided to quiz urban lot. Generalisation aside, which in your opinion is better - north or south london? and why?

South of course - I don't even know why you're asking - all the coolest people come from south of the river ...

its got to be south for sure

north london makes no sense to me and i work there!

how comes theres never east vs west debates?

does the river play such a big part in our geographical psyche?

If i was a cabbie i'd have as much fear of the hell that is the A4 or the commercial road.

South, it's where I live so I prefer it. Never have any problems getting south of the river... night buses for me!

Saaaaaaaaarrrrrrfffffff innit :)

South - I'll go anywhere south and always feel like I could knock on someone's door if I was in the shit.

North London  at night by myself - feck off.

I also think North London is a bit more touristy where as South is grittier and more kind of local with a better sense of community.

Maybe it's just South is traditionaly poorer

Saying that I only lived North of the river for about 2 weeks and that was enough for me :)

South London for the people, north London for the places.
There, that was easy. :)

Well said

I have a big gob sorry :D

Could you not substitute people for faces - might have a better ring? :)

Its all aload of bollocks. I live in zone 3 North London and I travel..

the folks in Wood Green are fine.

born and bred south londoner. now living in the deep south - right at the bottom of the compass.

croydon gets a lot of stick, but i prefer it to enfield's nouveau riche pretensions.

but i spose it's what you're used to.

I work for a taxi firm (in South London, though I live in North) and my drivers get pissed off going to North London.

If I try to cover jobs that I don't have cars for with black cabs the one job they will not cover on time is Brixton. If I get a job going SW2 I basically have to offer them extra money or lie about where it's going or it doesn't get done.

?

what a ridiculous feature - "we asked two cab drivers north of the river, north or south? and, shock horror, they both said north. reason: it's nearer."

good grief.

I've always lived in North London, but I have to say South London has won me over... I work in South London, go out lots there too and my beloved lives in South London...

That is not to say that North London doesn't have it's good points too. ;)

(Hampstead Heath, for starters)

Ah, Hollis, the tryhard stir it up worm in Wood green...

:p

The thing which sealed it all for me was one free gig , albeit in the posh surrounds of Hyde Park a few years ago (Fruitstock I think) Standard shout out gig procedure from an average hip hop band- the crew on stage asking who was from East London ('yeah' the crowd response), who was representing the south (louder crowd;' YEAH')

When it came to the North, I swear their portion of the crowd said something more resembling 'Yah' than 'yeah'...

;)

Brockwell Park has magnificent views over London. OK, so it's not as big as Hampstead Heath but at least we get concerts, Gay Pride, Country Show, Cannabis Festival - well we used to :(

As a born and bred South Londoner, I vowed never to live north of the river. But now I've lived in the North-East bit for 7 years, I find that south London has lost it's charm. Though I don't like north londoners slagging off sarf London.
