Sorry for this question but...

well, i've a little less than 20 miles to do and the fare of a taxi is for 6 miles between 17£ and 27£. Seeing how lucky I'm right now it's probably going to be more 27£ than 17£ ahah

Again i'm french so maybe there is something i don't understand from the taxi fare ^^

You're going from Plumstead, near Greenwich, to Brixton? It won't be as much as £70 for a taxi. Call Addison Lee and get a quote from them - http://www.addisonlee.com/ - If you give them the postcode you're going from and the postcode you're going to, they can give you an exact price for the journey.

Good luck and welcome to Brixton!

As Badgers said, Brixton feels a lot safer than any other suburban town in the weekend which is full of pissed-up gangs of boys wanting a ruck and streets full of vomit etc.

Interesting article in the London Paper tonight about the aggro on the streets of Kent and how it was being dealt with. Looked properly nasty but maybe that is just the press....

(sorry to the people of Bexleyheath)

I thought that was true for most places except Brixton :D

Probably heard her French accent and thought they'd make themselves a bonus

Hi everybody!

I'm moving into Brixton in a few days but i have to admit i'm a little scared. I know that you don't like when people are saying this but that the truth. The thing is i will have two big bags with me and i wouldn't like to be mugged so I was wondering if i should be carefull? I will move just near a nightclub called the Fridge ?

Thanks everyone :)

Hello epancra,

I'm sure it's already been said on this thread, but whoever told you that you have reason to be scared in Brixton is either trying to wind you up, is ignorant, or both.
Brixton does have more beggars and drunks etc than more wealthy areas, but it's really nothing to worry about.
As for the taxi, £70 is a ridiculously high quote. For example, it costs me £25-30 to go right across London to Hampstead - I'd try phoning Addison Lee like others have suggested.

The good thing about getting an Addisson Lee car is that they're usually pretty big, so you'll be able to put all of your bags into it, and make your move in one journey. Number is 02073878888

thanks to all of your for your advice, i'm going to do it myself, I did call Addisson Lee, and the price for the journey is 40 £. In other circunstances I would have took a cab but because my actual landlord took advantage of me i prefer to keep as much money as i can now :s everything is going to be fine, i just touched wood again :p

I live in Brixton and my sister lives in Plumstead. I feel safer in, and much prefer, Brixton.

Well, I did it ! it took me 9 hours but i did it ahah :p

but no luck, the first time i was in brixton, after bringing the first bag, i was walking on the street smoking when i saw in front of me a man approching (it was 11 A.M) and screaming, making big moves.. he stopped me and asked for a cigarette so i gave him the one i was smoking. I continued to walk and right after another man stopped me and asked me what the man wanted. I told him he wanted a cigarette. Then I was informed that the guy hurted an old man a few seconds ago by punching him without any reason :/ i continued walking and so the poor guy trying to catch his breath, visibly shoked.

Not exactly what i needed to see for my first day here ahah :p

oh dear! Best thing is to not make eye contact with men screaming and making big moves ;)

Toto, I don't think we're in Plumstead anymore!

Welcome to Brixton.....surreal and bizarre things will happen.

What can first appear to be dangerous normally fizzles out in something strangely amusing.

Most of us get used to it!

ahah, i hope not to see something strange everyday :p

still today in the park near my flat, there was like 7 police officers around a man who was on the grass sit. It didn't worried much :p

That's not unusual.

You'll know when you don't notice things anymore when you start wondering why you haven't heard a police siren for so long :D
