I make a quick but exotic afters out of McV ginger cake, pineapple chunks and coconut ice cream, with a sprinkling of rum

However tonight I've just had 2 slices of Soreen, sandwiched together with Lurpak butter, and almost indiscernible from the shop-bought snack variety Trashpony craves.

When I was running a lot, a used to often eat a McVities ginger cake, cut lengthways and spread with mashed banana, when I came back from my weekly 'long runs.' Lovely.

I love soreen but won't eat it :(

Apparently Asda's "Smart Price Malt Loaf" is edible by fussy vegan types though!

Always worth checking out cheaper lines for accidental vegan-friendliness. I had a vegan Christmas pud from Lidl a couple of years back. (This is when I was a vegan, like).

I voted yes, even though the king of squidgy cake is undoubtedly McVities Ginger Cake.

I have never had soreen and at first thought the thread was about a vegetable...:o But I have had squishy jamaica ginger cake. I got fat once having that most nights with hot custard. The posts talking about putting butter on soreen don't make it sound appealing.

Blimey, I'd forgotten all about Soreen!

My mother used to buy it back in the 70's, she used to put me a slice to take for my lunch. Not sure I'd like it much now though as my tastes have changed alot since then.
