It's shame it's over so soon - I was surprised that there only 12 episodes as I was expecting 20

There's another 8 showing in the US from January.

HOORAY!!!! - last night was a return to form - i haven't been convinced about this series at all - but last night was classic sopranos

Well, yes they are all nasty bastards but the great thing about The Sopranos is that you still feel for them

I dont though. I think they are all utterly nasty bastards.

The one that pisses me off the most is Tony's wife. She's all righteous and god fearing but she knows where the money comes from. She feels guilty about Jackie Jr and Adriana, yet she swans off to Paris with a new louis vitton purse stuffed with Tonys blood money.

And Tony is such a manipulative evil cunt, with his cheap whores and casual violence. I have no sympathy for any of them, to be honest.

I disagree slightly. True, they all have the morals of a snake and they are complete hypocrites but the show shows this beautifully, though it also shows you that they are human beings and that they are capable of love and tenderness towards their families, which makes their callousness towards other human beings all the more chilling. Most gangster/crime films either glorify these people or they are pure evil killing machines.

You can have characters who are evil and sympathetic. In fact The Sopranos is, in a funny sort of way, a very Catholic programme: these are evil fucks but there's a glimmer of humanity in all of them. There's always the chance of redemption, although no one ever seems to take it. All decent gangster films are about bad people making bad choices. A bit like Macbeth or Richard III.

Well, I would use the word evil advisedly. Surely this programme shows that good and evil are too polarised and are redundant terms when it comes to understanding human behaviour.

Hmmm, not sure, too much Carmela wandering around Paris going 'ooohh'.

This whole series feels 'end of the road', don't think it's a patch on earlier ones. In fact, usually find myself switching to Entourage on a Thurs...:o

Well, I don't want to get into a metaphysical debate about whether there is such a thing as 'evil', but these are monstrous, despicable people.

that was a great episode. the bit when carmina called from paris and spoke to tony about aj, asked how the house was etc, just after he had agreed to order the killing of one of his best men (which I think was a massive decision for him) basically summed up the whole of the sopranos in about five minutes.

brilliant.

and I think tony agreed to give the vito hit to "carlo", I thought that was what I heard. so it wasn't fact that vito was killed that was the problem it was the fact that phil did it, not tony. can't have another family's boss killing your men.

as soon as I saw vito kill that guy last week I knew he was going to get it eventually. classic set up.

it is all going to kick off. cannot wait. :)

No comments on the 'final' episode? I found it a little disappointing, a bit anti-climactic.

yeah. definitely.

phil's in hospital so not even a final face off....

hopefully the last eight will sort out all the free strands....
