Sony VAIO boot sequence

My friend has given me a Sony VAIO to have a look at, because it is software broke. There are that many things wrong with it it seems the best bet just to start again with a new version of XP. Problem one. When I go into the BIOS, and look at the boot sequence, it does not give me an option to choose the CD in the boot. It only ones to boot from either, hard disk, optical Drive, network. Is anybody familiar with this and can make a suggestion as to the way forward?

go for the optical drive option as first that's cd dvd usually..

has anybody got any clues about the control panel?

yes you are right about the optical Drive, I did try that earlier, but it wouldn't read my XP disc. So I thought I would doublecheck I haven't got it wrong.
