Does the * key work at all? If it does and its still not cycling the flash setting then perhaps its old firmware and you need to update it. Another might have the same firmware on and therefore the same problem. I know mine didn't even connect to the computer when I 1st tried it. Using the firmware updater sorted it.

See previous post for how to update it.
The * key works, I use it to unlock my keypad.

I can't connect my phone to my computer, cos my computer runs on Windows 98 which isn't compatible with the PC Suite.

I like SE phones and this has been my fave so far... Camera is great apart from the lense cover problem. Why-o-why the designers didn't do a better job I don't know. My previous SE phone was the K750 and the lense cover was better on that. Also with the K750 you could turn on the light on to use as a torch which was bloody useful - but that's missing from the K800 :(

Overall though my best phone to date with a stunning camera :D

By the looks of things the have fixed the shutter thing on the K810i

Another good site for memory that I've used several times is mymemory.co.uk who are doing 1GB M2 cards at £18

That's very decent. Anything less than a score is worth risking for a new site if you ask me...

Unless you want to put music onto it, I actually find that the phone memory is plenty for pictures as long as you copy them off reasonably often.

I've used the site 3or4 times now and always had prompt deliveries and no hassle. Was put onto them by someone other folk who've had nothing but good words for 'em too. But famous last words and all that!!!

Just got me one of these bad boys. Love it,it's a great phone, shame about the lack of a torch, but I'm sure I'll get over it :D

I want to make a video call!! Must promt a family member to get one :D

A lot of people I know have this phone and they seem happy with it.

I want one but am stuck with a crappy W800i for a few more months :(

You can call me if you like, have to text me as I'll have to switch on 3G, it wastes the battery, which after that last firmware upgrade, lasts about a week.

Whenever I look for updates on the handset, it always tells me it is up-to-date, which I'm pretty sure it isn't. Going to try using the on-line update service tomorrow when I've got me cable.

My wife has just got a K800i on upgrade. I cannot get the PC suite of software to istall on either the Desktop or the Laptop. I have removed all the palm software that may conflict and disabled the firewall and Anti virus (EEK!) but no good and the computers will not recognise the phone when it's attached.
I have tried the helpdesk but they were not very helpful, and it was a premium rate!

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Yup. Just installed the latest firmware using link in one of my previous posts in this thread.

Grr. Updated to the latest firmware at work today, and now the bleedin backlight won't come on when I press a button, or when the phone rings, so I can't see who's calling. I can't find any setting for it other than squinting next to a bright light, finding Display in the menu settings, and then pushing it up to 100%.

Bollocks.

As the PC won't recognise the phone, I can't do any firmware updates:mad:

Do Sony Ericsson answer any of their e-mails?

You could take it into one of your providers stores and ask them to do it for you... But check that your backlight still works before you leave the shop. I'm very pissed off.

So you've downloaded the firmware update, taken out your sim and held down the C button when you've powered it on and plugged into the PC?

You might have to do a master reset. Download Floats Mobile Agent and get that to back up all the texts and contacts and then do a master reset.

Ended up just needing to re-do the firmware upgrade. Though Floats Mobile is very good, thanks! ;)

Thats cool. The new firmware makes the phone feel a bit less responsive don't you think? You have to actually unlock it before it lights up, but the battery life is now great. I've been on red for 2 days now.

If you can get bluetooth to work, supposedly you can get FMA to automatically detect your within range and then auto sync. Never got it too work for me, sounds cool though.

I've followed the instructions to the letter (they don't say switch the phone on, but to hold down the c button and plug the USB lead into the phone) and it just comes up with a 'Found new hardware' dialogue box and won't go any further

You have to give windows a bit of time to load the drivers for the phone and then re-run the update software.

I had to uninstall, then reinstall the software. After that it installed the USB Flash drivers after checking "No, not this time" then Next>etc. It's updating now :)

Finally it's working, although it took a £2 phone call to Sony. Apparently for some obscure reason, some drivers were missing from the PC Suite. So after I switched off the firewall, de-activated the Anti-virus, removed all of the Palm software, turned off the pop-up blocker. It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, where do I get FREE ringtones from ( apart from the few on the Sony Website) Googling brings up free ringtones that cost a subscription?

Still its a cool phone
