Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905 packs 8.1MP camera!

Got a C902 as an upgrade within the last month and aesthetically it's bloody lovely - slim, elegantly designed, reassuringly weighty, loadsa features, can do anything, very clear pictures, blah blah blah. I'm a big fan of SE's in general and was really looking forward to getting this one. I don't like wearing headphones so don't use them that much for music anyway - if music is a bigger deal to you you may prefer one of the W series, but for me the C902 offers the best range of features in a single phone (and the nicest skin) that Sony currently has in its range. Tho the C905 does look even better.

But it hasn't been entirely hassle free... unlike my previous W800i which was a great little workhorse of a phone and only died when I drowned it in a bedside glass of water (not just a few seconds, it was in there overnight - screen looked like a fishtank). So far witht he C902, which I've cared for like a small and demanding baby:

- reception came and went at random - apparently due to needing a new SIM? (although the old SIM was less than a year old, and 3G, but evidently some sort of coding didn't agree with the new model.) Resolved when provider sent me a new SIM.

- the alarm clock function (vital for dozy lazy sleepyheads like me) also works on some days, but not on others, again at random - no pattern to it at all, just some days it will ring and others it won't - and YES it's been set in exactly the same way each night. WTF?

- finally - a totally embarrassingly stupid question from me: there's a weird icon which keeps popping up on the screen - and I can't find what it means by reading the f***ing manual - just to the right of the coverage-indicator bars at the top left corner, there's a big capital "H" in a light blue square. What is this? what does it mean? can i fix it and get the alarm clock to work?
(*techno-peasant scurries back into wattle-and-daub abode*)

It may mean you've got a HSDPA connection (ie. 3.5G)?

Might be ^^^^ 3g on the K800i was a swirl of sorts I think, or one of the profiles is set. Click the power button to see what you have set, it will show all the profiles and their icons. Took me ages to figure out I had it set to office, which was an icon that looked like some tower blocks.

dunno if this is the right thread to ask this, but now i have this lovely phone, i wouldnt mind a tube map to have on it
ive messed about with resizing jpegs etc and not had much luck and everyhting i find on t'net is no longer available
anyone help?
ta.xx

Why don't you just take a photo of the tube map and zoom in? That's what Random One did with her 3mp Sony and it works well enough...

hmmm, might try that, but didnt have much luck with dloading a gif from tfl, saving as a jpg and messing with it...might be something stupid im missing though
ta for reply :)

Refurbished C902 is available for O2 contract customers at £69.99.

No contract, no catch, just the handset and charger.

Pretty good deal as the phone is about £200 - £220 new

Call 202
Press 2 then 1

DON'T DO IT
I'm sorry to say it, but not only has my C902 has turned out to be a total lemon - has now gone back to 02 repair for the SECOND time - but I'm also falling out of love with 02 customer service after 10 mostly happy years.

Having to pay up £25 for a crappy Nokia 'replacement' 1650 phone (look! it can play Snake!) is not my idea of Select service.
Having your clueless in-store staff sneer at me and try to argue the toss when I attempt to explain what the problem is doesn't work that well for me either.
Claiming that it will take at least 2 weeks to sort any problem is a bit shoddy as well.
But most of all, I get hacked off when I send in a phone for repairs and it comes back with a whole new set of problems.

Furthermore I've heard from 2 or 3 acquaintances that their C902s have also been giving them serious jib. It's a shame because on the design front it really is a lovely little thing - but it seems there are a lot of just crap handsets about.

So:
Think carefully about buying a C902
Don't even think about buying a 'refurbished' one (it's probably one of the lemons being sent back in their hundreds)
But don't even contemplate buying a 'refurbished' C902 from O2.

Mine did the 'lemon' thing
O2 replaced the handset after a bit of messing around and now it is golden.
I think the first lot that were rolled out were crappy as other people advised but they seem to be sorted now.

O2 are the best of a bad bunch in terms of service IMHO
