I like them but I prefer the tracks thrston sings on, I could never get on with Kim Gordons voice.

Yeah, I started a thread about it once, huge backlash. Everyone loves her voice.

Except me, I remember someone commented that the love of Kims voice was one of the few things that united urbanites.

I love her voice, especially on their cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog.

Sonic Youth are actually the coolest band.

diamond sea is and always will be one of my most cherished tunes ever...ive been in love with that song since the 1st time i heard it...

that doesnt even begin to delve into their massive backlog & influence...they were breaking ground when other ppl were playing with themselves ...i really respect SY...loads.

They have always been one of those band that I have been really in awe of.
They are just excruciatingly cool! (IMHO)

I wish I had got to go to the ATP a couple of years ago that (I think) they curated.

Lmao - the music forum is a tough place...try telling them you think Ian Dury is over-rated. :D

The new one's a cracker

Basically they're fucking ace aren't they?

How many other 45-50 year olds are making music this good?

Actually, fuck it, with so many bog-standard rock bands about, how many people of any age are making music this good?

They're doing some of their best stuff right now IMO (Rather Ripped and this), honing in their experimental side a mite, making it more structured and (dare I say it) tuneful, while still remaining 100% Sonic Youth.

I'm a bit undecided about this tbh, maybe the sonic youth records stuff was too much of an outlet for stuff that would have worked it's way into the main band.
