Songs banned by the BBC

Ok, pop pickers a seemly time for a bantastic bump.

On BBC a programme, no less, a while ago they said that Chas and Dave's "Gertcha" was banned/edited because of the word cowson.
At work last night watching top of the pops on BBC4, they played Elvis Costello's Oliver's Army, complete with racially offensive word. I know the word
was played as I double checked it. Have I or the BEEB missed the point or missed something?

I remember seeing Oliver's Army on the BBC shortly after the 7/7 bombings. The "one more winner one less white nigger" line was cut, as was the whole verse that contained the line "London is full of Arabs".

Iirc it was chosen by someone on some show, dunno why they bothered to show it at all really

The line is "one more WIDOW...", not "winner".

I remember a chart rundown one Sunday when the Dead Kennedys had the cheek to gatecrash the party with 'Too drunk to fuck' and it was brushed aside with "and at number 37 (?) a song by a band calling themselves the Dead Kennedys" :-)
