I've been planning a 'songs about trains' compilation for ages, but I've limited it by only including songs which replicate the sound of the train, through the rhythm, whistles, etc. I've still got enough stuff for about 4 hours.

Damn that blues.

Express by BT Express has train noises, train rhythms and is a great tune!

Someone mentioned City of New Orleans by Johnny Cash, but the Arlo Guthrie version is worth a listen.

Driver 8, REM

Casey Jones, Grateful Dead

Train Kept a Rolling, Yardbirds

Peace Train, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam

Crazy Train, Ozzy

Somewhere Down the Crazy River, The Band

Born on a Train, Arcade Fire

Bullet Train, Judas Priest

Long Train Running, Doobie Brothers

Girl on a Train, 10,000 Maniacs

etc

Peace Train has been scientifically proven to be the worst song ever written. They tested it on a goat and its head fell off.

You would be advised to read threads......;)

I'm not going to read four pages and make lists in anticipation of my post. Some of them are probably duplications: I apologize for the energy you've wasted rereading those dozen words.

ps I did read the thread, but the short term memory ain't what it used to be.

I like peace train, and also city of new orleans.

I've never tried either on a goat.

Man. I'd rather be run over by it than have to listen to that again.

"WHOOO WHOOO PEACE TRA-EE-AY-EE-WHOOOO-TRAIN, we're on the peace train, pease porridge hot train, gonna try not to derail because of the aging infrastructure, me and my train brothers, yeah, err, yeah-aaaaah, peace train. Ad-hoc freestyle excellent lyric train! To, err, salvation. Two three four. Ah."

Has 'This Train is Bound for Glory' been mentioned yet?

I'd play it last if I was you.

'Stop This Train - I Wanna Get Off' has to have been mentioned, but I'm way to lazy to read the whole thread this evening.

And, that Monkey's song about the train. That was good. Has that been mentioned?

He wasn't writing his own Wiki entry he was correcting it. If you saw a load of incorrect information about you on such a site (eg you were a heroin addict), I'm sure you'd correct it.

Last Train to Clarkesville hasn't been mentioned (unless they spelt clarkesville wrong).

It's about conscripts leaving for Vietnam.
