something for every music lover's home

no, it doesn't at all. i had a very quick peek at that link. "national front disco" - to me at least - is quite obviously *not* a racist song.

How exactly does that make Morrissey racist?

Oh, it doesn't.

Um ok, well im not allowed to quote the actual publication where he was quoted making what (to me anyway) sound like racist comments. The fact that hes currently enjoying a bit of hero-worship amongst racists/facist networks speaks volumes IMO.

So you don't think - just for a minute, like :) - that right wing organisations keen to drum up support and apparent approval might jump on any such claims about a celebrities comments, no matter how unfounded they might be? :D

Oh fuck this Morrissey bollocks. there's a full in-depth thread specially on that elsewhere in the music forum.

This thread is about a dartboard with that cunt Bono on it.

IIRC, he clearly made racist comments
"Although I don't have anything against people from other countries, the higher the influx into England the more the British identity disappears. So the price is enormous.

"If you travel to Germany, it's still absolutely Germany. If you travel to Sweden, it still has a Swedish identity.

"But travel to England and you have no idea where you are"
"England's been thrown away"
"These days you won't hear a British
accent in Knightsbridge"

You require 666 to win.

I don't think it's racist as such. More little englander. He's not denigrating other cultures, just lamenting what he perceives as the passing of his ideas of England. Not saying that's OK, but to label it racism as such is overstating the case I think

It's nationalist. You can't deny it's that

along with comments such as "of course people should be allowed the freedom to live where they want" (summink like that anyway, it's from memory)

Cunt.

Jonz - "What's clear, though, is this: the "I've been stitched up" card is the last bastion of someone who's said something offensive but is too scared to back this up, yet too stubborn to apologise. How can Morrissey possibly claim a stich up when the interview is printed in Q&A form, his quotes are recorded on tape and he wasn't even asked about immigration in the first place? It's truly cowardly. If Morrissey holds these opinions he should either be sticking to his guns and standing by them or - more honorably - educating himself on race issues, realising why his comments were both offensive and inflamatory, and apologising for them as quickly as is humanly possible"

nah, i wasn't under a rock :D but i'd only got up to the bit where Jonz said he wanted his name taken off the piece - so thought they were probably mis-quoting Morrissey. but it seems the Q&A were typed verbatum....

tbh, no. i don't like what he said at all. and yes, if anyone else had said what he did, they'd probably be vilified on here. it does smack of nationalism to me....or little englander mentality. views i don't share with him.

I don't share the views either but I still don't believe he is racist.

there's a very thin and fragile line between little englanders and racists in my experience....

There can be, but it's not always the case, so you'd be guilty of stereotyping or generalising if you leapt to that conclusion. And stereotypes lead to.....

:p

true. and duly noted.

let's just say his stated views make me a leetle bit wary of him then.

tbh, anyone saying what he has - it's to be expected people will think he might be a racist.

I dunno - there's definitely the whiff of Enoch about it
