Some people are ignorant selfish bastards.

Shame it's not one person on their own. He could have phoned the police and said he thought they had collapsed inside.

What tools does he need? Can't he borrow from fellow sparks or others? They often have spares if they are anything like my dad. Or even hire or buy some more and bill them for them when they get back. better than letting down other customers.

Yeah, call the police. But they probably won't be able to do anything. But just in case they can...

These people, are they just independently wealthy with trust funds or investments to live off? Or do they actually have jobs? Phone the place of employment, ask to speak to the secretary.

Obviously, they're not going to give personal information out like contact details (although if the sparks could give them their phone number, to go towards proving that he'd already been in contact and was legitimate), then the secretary should have emergency contact details and should be able to get in contact with them either by phone or by email.

When I've worked as a secretary, if someone phoned me telling me something like that while my boss was away, I'd have thought my boss was a tit who deserved having his holiday interrupted.

Do they have unusual names? Search for them on Facebook, they're probably online frequently posting pics of themselves quaffing champagne in St Tropez or something. Even if you're not Facebook friends with someone, you can still send them a message.

If it was a week, I'd say it was possibly too much hassle by the time they were tracked down and by the time they received a message, but six weeks not being able to work and earn a living? That's out of order.

It's a shame he's a sparks and not a singer:

But can he not round up some other sparky mates, rig up some outdoor lighting, some of those disco ropes, plugged into their mains with a big message across the front of the house saying: "The owners of this house are selfish, inconsiderate cunts who went on holiday for six weeks leaving my toolkit locked in their house and me unable to support my family." And video it. And publish it on YouTube. :D

i would check to see if anyone is accessing the property while the owners are "apparently away"

fraud

they enticed him/her to deposit valuable goods in their house which they then abandoned effectively appropriating said goods for an unknown period of time and for an unknown motive.

ofc they could settle out of court.

They sounds like gitsacks.

I assume he has their mob number?

If so, has he managed to get in touch and what did they say?

I dunno the answer to many of the questions above, I haven't spoken to him since BUT I understand from his wife he's got some spares and can manage but it's just a bloody hassle, especially as he'd fixed when to do it and planned accordingly and they've swanned off to their holiday home or summat, and he could have arranged to do other jobs over the next six weeks, with his best tools.......

I'd absolutely get a locksmith or a glazier in.

Best I can tell there would be no criminal offence of 'attempted' anything as the intention is clear and no damage will be done. Worst case: Potential civil liability under Trespass, but they wouldn't dare try.

I'm in favour of the more radical suggestions, but a sensible one might be to stick a note on the front door. Anyone who might be looking after the house while they are away could then ring him/arrange access. When the fuckers come back, that's when the fun should start...

Edit: the added advantage of sticking a note on the door is that it advertises the house might be empty/increases the chances of a burglary.:)

You're right Mrs M, the clients are ignorant and selfih and I would also say callous. What kind of fuckers do such a thing? If I were him I'd scope by their house a ciuople of times on the off chance someone might be in.

Also, what happens to him if the house is burgled while they are away and his tools nicked? Or if there is a fire?
