Some nationalities seem to have so much anger

I've been to Brixton once and it was pretty horrible, the pubs are pretty shit except the dogstar and there are mental people everywhere

there is a great chippy tho which I got a massive bit of chicken and rice for about 2 quid which was the thing I've ever bought for 2 quid from a takeaway

They were mental tho, London is full of mentals, if I was a mental I'd live in London. Brixton has a lot of drugs so it's mental even for London

i see, doesn't the NHS take care of the "mentals"? If not then whats the point of nationalized healthcare?

We have mentals all over too.

The NHS gives everyone with mental problems a load of sedatives and a shit house in my experience (which is only from having known quite a lot of people with mental problems over the years not working in mental health)

And even if you are too fucked in the head to manage you don't want to go and live in a hospital do you?

and a lot of people in London aren't there legally so they can't use national insurance anyway

interesting....thank you for the explanation

Such a lovely compassionate attitude from DC and IIM

for the record i am pro-mental :p

I hope I don't sound patronising telling you this but my opinions are all based on having had a few friends and a girlfriend who have been diagnosed as 'mentals' and been through the system and a friend who worked for the NHS as a psychiatrist so they aren't 'fact'. just anecdotal drunken opinion

This thread seems to be a newly registered loon poster magnet.

Proves my point..obviously we're all from Brixton.

I've lived in Brixton for about 14 years. It does have more than it's fair share of nutters wandering about in the street, maybe because of the poverty.

Im sorry.........but there seems to be so much anger in Brixton isnt there. I picked up some ones oyster card to day as they dropped it to get 'its mine, its mine!!' Then i get it snatched off me. The thing is im not saying we can all be brought up the right way.....but do manners cost any thing. It would be nice just once to hear thank you, or excuse me. Im not going to say what nationalities, but god it does seem that a smile would not go a miss.

This sounds like a London thing to me. My ma and her guy are up in Bristol visiting me-from London and kept commenting on how friendly and polite everyone was in comparison to London. When we were leaving a bar, a group of teenagers held the door open for them and were ever so polite- both my ma and her guy said if that had been London those lads would have pushed passed them and probably knocked em over!

Here in the UK we've seen the "process of deinstitutionalization of psychiatric services to community-based care over the last 50 years".

In other words, the large Victorian asylums (which did have their own problems) have been shut, and the inmates given hard-to-let flats on sink estates.

When the mental asylum at Tooting was shut, there was an immediate and obvious increase in the deranged street-life of Brixton.

Valid points made. But I have worked in 10 different stores all over London for a major retailer for 12 years. I never had 'as much' abuse as I did in Brixton.

But its supprising its mainly from white people in an multi cultural area like Brixton.

I have had other asian people calling me racist names as well even though they are the same nationality as me. And I have also seen white people abusing white people.

In my last store in Brixton, a portuges collegue was called a 'fucking imigrant' by a white lady who had darker skin than he did.

I dont know what store you work in but I think people who work in retail in Brixton get more abuse than elsewhere in London.Im around a lot of central London and notice that the people who work in Sainsburys in Brixton get a lot more hassle than in central London.I asked one of staff in sainsburys once how he put up with it.This was after one of the local nutters abused the staff (and this is regular there).

As for race Its complicated.Ive heard people from the middle east and north Africa complain about ,as one of them put it, "The Jamacians".Ive also heard second generation Afro Carribean people (Black British) complain about the behaviour of those straight from Jamacia in there shops.Ive also heard a Black British person tell a traffic warden to go back to Africa.Seems to me there are cultural differences between people. These arent genetic or fixed.Nor does it cause more than irritation between people most of the time. Its no different than me a Southerner complaining about Northerners:p.People take things the wrong way when they dont know about other people.

However I do agree Brixton is full of nutters and so is central London. You just deal with it.The first thing I learned when I came to London is to be more wary and careful.London isnt sleepy Devon.

We all have our bad days.So do other people. Its always worth remembering that.Nor do I think people have to be paragons of political correctness at all times.London is big, crowded and not that easy when you dont feel up to it.
