Don't want to _derail_ the thread, but I really miss the plain old BR liveries from the Intercity 125s. Yellow nose, blue engine, grey and blue carriages, 70s lower case font. Saw some carriages in a siding a few months ago, and they now have an understated cool. Need sunglasses and a sickbag before looking at a V*rg*n Train.

I agree. The worst liveries are the First Group ones.

A return to BR livery here...

These were cool. For a diesel.

I was in france (and on the sncf) recently and thought exactly the same thing. It's too fussy, like someone's just discovered the "gradient" effect on adobe illustrator. It doesn't look good on paper and it's even worse on trains. It looks particularly pathetic stuck onto a well worn and slightly dirty locomotive. A rail operator's logo needs to be robust and i would suggest no more than a couple of colours.
I was also in spain recently and fairly impressed with renfe's current liveries. All quite clean and restrained.

The Brunswick green is very simillar to "British Racing Green"
The earlier insipid green looks like the colour of a hospital toilet

I reckon a fetching blue with pinstripe....

Oh hang on someones been out with the crayons again!

Sure the Fat Controller would agree with the green...

.p.

Happened to be doing a job at Loughborough and Thomas was about...No way I wasn`t taking a foto to prove to my littl`un that HE is REAL!

Just found this:

I just find it a less garish colour than the apple green, and the lining out looks good.

I found this as well:

The beginning of Flying Scotsman's last run in BR ownership, in 1963: the new owner, Alan Pegler, is the bloke standing on the buffer beam. Were it not for him, Flying Scotsman would probably have been cut up like the rest of the class...

That's great. :D

I never did like Rail Blue much and it doesn't suit the Voyager, but the Voyagers are ugly heaps of shit anyway so it doesn't make that much difference.

Most of the privatised train companies' liveries are nasty and garish, Virgin's no less than any other. I think the C2C and One liveries are the worst, but there are plenty of others.

GNER's is - now was - okay, although the photoshop of the Flying Scotsman wearing it sends shivers down the spine... :D

e2a: Just looking around that 'fictitious liveries site. Open this one if you dare... http://fictitiousliveries.fotopic.net/p26139785.html

I actually think it suits the voyager surprisingly well... maybe it's just the "real train" associations of the livery that makes it appeal.

I reckon the GNER livery is the best one out there (not much longer sadly as you say) at the moment. I'd even dare suggest it's better than most of the old BR ones.

That fictitious liveries site is a bit addictive ... well, only for certain people perhaps ...

It's certainly nicer than Rail Blue, IMO, or that white livery that BR put on the 225s when they first came out, that looked grubby after a day in service.

Certain people. Yes. :o I think seeing the Virgin-liveried A4s and SWT spamcans might have been the aversion therpay I need, though. :D

The Caledonian sleeper livery was OK-ish as well (as was the general Scotrail one IMO) but First have screwed them up now too.
