I love Glastonbury but I just don't fancy it at all this year.

The bill thus far hasn't managed to fire up any enthusiasm and the prospect of potentially wading through piles of soul-sapping mud for another long weekend makes my heart sink.

I haven't been for about 20 years! :)

Even then, we thought it was getting a bit too big and commercialised, but with crap facilities for campers. I wouldn't have gone without the backstage pass, which at least meant I had somewhere reasonable to camp :)

camping facilities - field, toilets, showers for the oddballs who are worried about that sort of thing, water points.

I'm struggling to see what else campers actually need tbh.

Fields that aren't knee deep in shit and vacant eyed middle class kids?

Don't have a problem with the camping facilities at all - all this shower business is for wimps:p

I've decided that this year I'm going to make an effort to get out to more single gigs that I really want to see and a couple of smaller festivals rather that blitz all that money on one week/end. The memory of last years weather doesn't help much either :(.

I'll probably be back in the future tho:cool:.

Didn't see any of the former at Glastonbury and the latter is mere prejudice and therefore not worth responding to

There is no single reason why I am not going. Certainly no the weather, been to too many festivals to let a wee drizzle put me off. But everytime I get a bit of enthusiasm I just remember the atmosphere at the main stages last year. Absolutely dead at times. I occasionaly felt out of place for dancing and bouncing around as much. That has never happened before.

Also the fact that it is all shut down about 1:30 or something. Its just not the 24 hour event it used to be. More "The Bigger Chill" these days than the festival that was featured in the Julian Temple film.

I will probibly be back next year though.

It is just too big and crazy for me. I would only go if I was working there and could be there about a week before hand.

The last time I went was 19890r 90? and it was too big and crazy for me then and that was at age 19 so I dont think I could handle it at 38 unless I had a state of the art camper van:D

£160 for 5 days compared to V @ £135 (for 2 days), Reading @ £125, or Bestival £130 (plus your ferry)

or £75 for endorse it.

I've never been to Glastonbury. Largely because it takes place during term time, and for the large proportion of my festival-going life i've been at school - either as a pupil or a teacher. Then, at other times I couldn't afford it.

But I've never been truly faffed about it. It's too long. I can do three days - but by the end i always have chronic backache, and often ibs probs, and am feeling the lack of decent sleep. I never sleep well at festivals - too noisy / cold / hot / wasted.:(
I've never been a stoner/hippie/crustie/holistic/veggie type either - so when people talk about the special atmosphere, i have to confess that it doesn't sound terribly appealing.:o

That poll should be multi option.

Yep.

practically all of the above.

Mainly because it's too big and I'm not bothered in the main about seeing live bands, and dancing is often difficult in fields.

I only went once - in 1987, and had a crap time.

I might have enjoyed it circa '94 with Orbital and the like playing ...

Just can't afford it, really, and I had such a blast at solfest last year, I had a bit of an epiphany and decided smaller festivals were my plan from henceforth on

My camping holiday in Cornwall will cost me hardly any more than that and I'm having electricity in my family-size tent :)

Glasto is like listening to radio 2 and the line up has more to do with column inches than talent. So who ever is over publicised that year will be headlining no matter how shite they are. Apart from that it's just lame and it is obviously run by the 'Illuminati' judging by the pyramid stage.

when people talk about the line up, do they mean the actual real line up across dozens of stages and arenas or are they talking about the very few name bands they see on telly or read about in the papers?

Because if you watch the BBC coverage and think you know what Glastonbury's about then you're a muppet tbh

I don't go to any festivals, I'm 34 now and rock bands don't impress me anymore like they did when I was 18. There are more rewarding activities out there for me now than listening to repetative three minute songs.

The poll missed out the fact that many thing the main lineup is shite.

Glasto have re-opened registration cause it didn't for once sell out on the first day.

Most people interviewed said Jayzee? Rap? No thanks. We want guitars n shit, thats what glasto is about.

Changing genre of a successful festival. Clever or stupid? I'm going with stupid.

fuck me, I don't know where to start.

Who cares who's on the mainstage? I average 1 - or 2 at most - Pyramid stage acts each year.

Not 'for once' at all. As has been discussed at length on the other thread, selling out instantly is a very recent phenomenon.

Glasto is about guitars? :D

What unmitigated bollocks from start to finish

Wow! You're so edgy

Bully for you but a lot of people do care. Or are you saying the Pyramid stage is usually empty when the headline acts are playing as no one cares? You do surprise me.

I exagerated so sue me. It does sell out quick though usually does it not?

Someone they interviewed on the radio said it. It tickled me so I had to repeat it.
