same principle, though substitute the word "dog" for "cat". We don't have to worry about the contents of the cat litter tray, as teh dog sees that as her mid morning snack :)

Our dog does this too. Are they insane?

when I was 15 I loved incense. But all the endless dust and smoking out the window etc gave me bad throats and bronchitis. If only memebers of my familty would realised this. I have buckets of the stuff (well not that much) bought as gifts over the years and occasionally burn it off it an attempt to use it up

I sometimes burn Dragonsblood or Copal, a mate always blasts us with menthol at 8 in the morning to wake us all up when we're on the sesh round there, which is half nice half horrible. Cant beat a nice bit of the hippy smoke tho :)

Just wondering do you guys not have windows you can open??

Yes, but believe me, there are times when fresh air alone is not up to the task. Also, I realise you're from the north so may not feel the cold, but IT'S WINTER :p Our house is hard enough to heat without throwing all the downstairs windows open and leaving them thus for an hour.

For japanese stuff the most available in the west are from Shoyeido and Nippon Kodo:

Don't know about stores in the UK, I used to do this in the US. Most new age-y places have something half decent.
But the best prices will be in your local Indian grocery store.

I like the Indian stuff in the blue and white packets, but I burn Japanese smokeless incense in front of the Butsudan. If any Urbanites want some of this, it can be bought from the shop in the Buddhist centre in Brixton. (No.1 Bernays Grove tel 020 7 978 8334 for opening times). If you speak to me nicely a box may be given to you as a gift . I'm using a white plum scented one at the mo. It's lush. I also recommend the Towa Lavender scented.

hi pinkmonkey..i live in the east end so i dont know this buddhist centre in brixton.i could maybe stop by tho..what is the full name of the centre?
also approx how much is the incense? im very interested, as long as it isnt pricey basically..its the first ive heard of smokeless and like i said in an earlier post my flatmate/plus a few friends HATE the smokey stuff. tho if the incense is a bit pricey ill just continue burning smokey incense when alone;)

not so much into nag champa but some of the japanese sticks can be lovely, complex and elegant. Make my own incenses to burn on charcoal too, when i have the time/motivation.

It's the SGI South London Centre, but you must ring and check first, coz the shop isn't open that often. It isn't cheap - anything between £6 and £9 depending on the size of the sticks, but the boxes are massive - probably about 500 sticks at a guess and they burn for anything betwen 20 and 30 minutes each. I also noticed you can sometimes get the Nippon Kodo ones on ebay - do a search for Butsugu.

These are my preferred house fragancers :-

Both tolerant of lowish light levels :)

Come the late summer / autumn, just one or two of these blooms on the patio is sufficient :-

i burn nag champa in my cave at home to cover any smoke..i only burn incense with the windows slightly cracked though.it can be totally overpowering, but i love it.

I hate incense

It makes me feel sick and I also associate it with people trying to mask the smell of cat wee.

(talking about sticks - some stuff you burn in a charcoal disk is OK but I prefer the natural fragance of cooking / flowers / fruit / anything really)
