Wasn't going to bother, but Mrs.Griff keeps wanting to excercise her right to vote, so will probably drag me along this evening.

Dunno who to vote for. But what did surprise me is that the BNP have a candidate in Saffron Walden. Some woman drafted in from Loughton with the surname of Clapp. :D

Reckon they'll lose their deposit up here.

So in answer to question, dunno really.

I'm quite excited actually, I want to see how they did  No2EU that is, not the fash. I reckon fash will get about 7.5%-9% of the vote, nowhere near as bad as some people are suggesting.

Straight up - I think no2 eu are likely to get trounced mate, even though i voted for them - we are pretty much invisible. silence from the media who have been going on about the bnp and ukip ad nauseum. the important thing is what comes out of the no2eu thing. we'll see - hope i am wrong

I think so too tbh - but what do you think is going to come out of it? People are very much more aware of socialism and the socialist party at least in my local area it seems like - the Youth Fight for Jobs has had a really good impact imo

fully agree with you on media coverage btw

I wonder if theyll start making unrealistic culture-changing demands like proper minorities do?

Well having had a look at the 2004 EU election results, the BNP got at or near 8% in 2 regions, a percentage or so less than that in a few more, and the others were around 3-4%. Considering how proportional representation works they very nearly got a seat or two last time, so I wont be surprised if they manage it this time.

Still even the parties who were getting 25-35% of the vote were often not getting all that much more than 1 in 10 of the potential voters in their area backing them, bad turnout. I'll be interested to see what the turnout is like this time.

I would love to have voted Green, but as per usual I settled for the least worst mainstream party - it being particularly important to kick "Labour" into the long grass - especially seeing as they've run a particularly unpleasant campaign locally.

Have they?

There is, most odd. :hmm:

It's the single transferable vote system there for some reason.
IMO it is a better system as it allows you to indicate who you would not like elected. That's often as important as indicating who is your preferred candidate. It's often criticised for returning the least disliked candidate, as if this were a bad thing.

I don't think Thatcher would have won in 83 or 87 if there had been STV. The vast majority of Labour voters would have put the libs second, and vice versa. As it was, a government that was detested by over half the electorate was returned with landslide majorities. Democracy?

Oh, I think the STV system is better – I just find it odd that it was only adopted in N.I. and not the rest of the U.K.

I'm voting in half an hour or so and i'm still undecided. I'm thinking Green, no2eu, Socialist Labour or holding my nose and voting vor the sitting MEP who has done shitloads to get primate testing banned in the eu, thing is he's Labour.

It's going to be tactical i think to keep Griffin out ( he's standing here!).........best bet may be Green.

NW - best chance of keeping Griffin out is Green. :)
