So, where you off to for the summer hols ?

We've had a mid-week break down in Cornwall a few months ago

But the main holiday is 2 weeks in Crete - Rethymnon - 'twas booked by Significant other

I have very simple requirements for a holiday - fly from Bristol, guaranteed sun, preferably European or English speaking and not too culturally challenging from a plumbing and food PoV

Apart from that - anywhere in the world'll do me

We are planning a train trip from Milan up into the Italian lakes, on into Switzerland, then up to Paris and home in early September when the school hols are over. The trip will take us about 17 days. We just need to book the Bernina Express, Glacier Express and the train from Interlaken to Paris and it's all organised. I've really enjoyed putting it all together. I am so looking forward to the train journey through the Alps; going to be amazing. :)

I'm doing September and October in Carcassone renovating and selling my late in-laws' holiday home. Madame won't leave the dogs for that long (apparently leaving me alone is just fine) so I'll be solo for all but 2 weeks of it. I'm quite looking forward to it.

that does sound amazing :)

That train trip sounds amazing!

We've had our holiday this year already - three weeks in the US- but we've got a long weekend in Wales (this weekend) and a long weekend in Penrith for a Withnail and I film festival to look forward to. I'm also going to need to hop up to Aberdeen for a long weekend at some point when my sister sprogs.

We're also meant to be going on a city break at some point, either Paris or Barcelona, but the boy is organising that one.

Taking our caravan for Wales for 10 days in the school summer hols.
Booked a tiny little site a few minues walk from Pendine Sands.

Was thinking of going away for 2 to 3 weeks in October . Have no one to go away with so it will have to be a solo trip. Wanted to do a long haul backpacking trip but not sure where. Toying with the idea of Peru but not sure I want to do this as a lone female traveller. Anyone got a good suggestion for a 2 to 3 week itinerary for Peru. Taking in some urban landscape as well as countryside. Always wanted to see Machu Picchu.

I can't decide where to go! I keep looking at flights and places to stay and then getting distracted by other places and then end up giving up on the whole idea

I'm the same as you. Started looking at Peru. Then went and looked at the Trans Siberian Railway line (Trans Mongolian to be exact) but thought too much to plan and then looked at Cuba thinking it would be safer than Peru. Then sometimes I give up completely thinking it's too much to plan or too tiring (mentally) travelling alone.

Yeah. I suppose you could decide to travel around a country with a loose plan and enough money in reserve to buy yourself a flight home if it sucks?
I'm not travelling alone, I'm travelling with my child, but it would be nice to have somebody else's input. If someone said 'I'd like to go to Sicily' or 'Actualy I'd quite like to go to Barcelona' then it would help in narrowing down the options...

I can;t think of anything to get myself for my birthday so I was thinking of booking a weekend away but the planning is a bit tiring. MIght just get a new bike...

If I am doing a backpacking trip alone I like to do it fairly cheaply so an open ticket would be too expensive. I like to save where I can.

As for your choice between Sicily and Barcelona, I would say that Italy is always nice but slightly more expensive than Spain. However, there is so much to see and do in Barcelona. Never been to Sicily myself.

folkestone again, i think most likely. Now my brother has moved there it seems likely to be the family holiday resort. :hmm:
Did a nice daytrip today in and around the Folkestone area today. Here are some ideas for things to see including Memorial at Battle of Britain at Capel Le Fern, Folkestone Mermaid, Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway:

ETA: Was going to attach some photos but I am too dim to be able to do so!
