I post on forums, read blogs, use facebook and sometimes IRC chat channels...

...what I am failing to see atm is why I should also bother with twitter: what does it give me that these other channels don't already provide?

I suppose the answer is the access to the wanky wannabe-trendy celebs and other wankerish types who seem to be creaming themselves over this but are too-cool-for-facebook-or-forums: presumably because twitter is set up in a very "look-at-me" way? Maximum attention for minimum content = celeb-heaven?

I've been on it for nearly 2 years and go through fazes with it, much the same as facebook. I guess it depends on how arsed you can be with the whole social-networking thing.

I probably like twitter more because it's much less high-maintenance. I'm far too lazy for facebook

It's whether Twitter see any value in creating the infrastructure for it themselves, or will allow someone else to do it. The data's there as the US Library of Congress have the archive http://thenextweb.com/twitter/2011/...archive-will-build-unique-record-of-our-time/ it'll happen at some point probably
