Yeah but given the glacial pace of infrastructure projects in this country, they'll be there for another decade or so at least.
 
Couldn't they have double-decked New St and built the HS2 terminal above the existing platforms? Probably too late with the current development, but wouldn't have involved taking much land.

I suspect it's out at Curzon St partially to try and regenerate that area and encourage development.

And in any case, why would 'demolishing half the city centre' necessarily be a bad thing ;) (other than perhaps half not being enough).

Yeah, just demolish the Rotunda and half the Bullring, no problem :D
 
And the latest: Birmingham's New Street Station is set to open in September 2015 after a £650m redevelopment
