So there's no genuine confrontation planned for the G8 this year?

Zenie, i'm a bit confused, over on the barclays boss thread, you seem to defend the megabucks that these rentier class get, surely contradictory for someone going to protest at the G8, or am I wrong?

by the way, naming an arts collective after a bunch of fanatics who killed many innocents won't go down too well in germany,

I think the G8 is about far more than what someone's salary is don't you?

We know and the people that have named it that know too ;) The European Activists know what they're doing on this one

Date and time and I'll be there
the date is Sunday high noonish

the place (if you believe it) your choice

So it really is pointless then?

I know that having a fuck off ruck with the filth will not bring about the changes necessary but I know it shows people who are not exposed to lefty politics there are other people who are as angry as them.
I hear this argument a lot, but to be honest, I don't think that's true at all. IME, most people who aren't involved in lefty politics think that Genoa style rioting looks fucking stupid. And I don't even want to begin explaining how embarrassing it was when some non-politico mates of mine saw the inside of a convergence centre. The filth are also getting better and better at containing these kind of tactics, you couldn't sneeze in Scotland during the G8 without attracting the the attention of an armed response unit.

Besides which, summit protests are completely divorced from every day life, they mean nothing to most people, they say nothing of any relevance.

Come and join the RAF ;) we're going (if I can scrape the money together)
I'll donate a tenner to the 'zenie goes to G8 fund' if you pm your address.

Sure you're doing fundraisers where you are, but I'm not where you are, and likewise other people aren't where you are. Get a few more people who'd like to go but can't to chip in, and you're sorted.

NB: for your G8 fund, not beer or chocolate, yeah?!?

Reports of J18 in the right wing press woke me up to direct action. I didn't realise there were others as pissed of as me and willing to kick off.

The year after I went to Mayday 2000 and the year after Genoa.

Whatever you do you will not make the changes you want. That doesn't mean you shouldn't confront the organisations and people that cause and profit from the misery (in addtion to smal things you can do that will make real changes to peoples lives).

Nah is cool, I got a tax rebate

Guten Tag :D

Embaressing? why?
Because it was full of weirdos, there were posters up all over the walls detailing the finer points of those retarded hand gestures some people insist on using and it just looked like some club house a bunch of kids had cobbled together.

The whole punk/DIY aesthetic is cute, but it's not very useful when you're trying to organise for political action.

Sounds like an AF conference:D 'Completely divorced from everyday life, means nothing, and says nothing of any relevance...'

This thread demonstrates why Urban75 is fucking shit for P&P the days.

Lets go to G8 for a fun day out

*tootles off to libcom and wonders why*

Up for it for very different reasons. In Edinburgh there was people there who were blatantly there for the whole, guilt thing. Sorry but going to one demo a year and waving a placard with your faux pinko mates does not change a fucking thing as you go back to work the next day.

I think another reason for the decline of those protests is not just the improved police tactics, but the fact - as demonstrated in Sweden, Genoa and Switzerland - that the police are more than willing to shoot people to ensure these events go ahead.

When the stakes are raised to that level, many people, hardly surprisingly, say sod this I'm off. Which of course is another reason why the the cops shoot people - as an example to the others.....

It's a valid point but, IMO, is not the real reason why these have declined.

9/11/2001 changed everything.

I can't remember the 9th November as being that exciting to be honest....

I think its funny when people say they're going to protest for change, do whatever it takes. Then clock off at 5pm cos they have work in the morning. Wankers.

You make it sound like throwing bricks at riot police for a laugh is somehow a bad thing.

Should we all be sustaining ourselves on a mixture of self satisfaction and ideological purity or something?
