So, if you were to buy a proper classic car or bike...

Can't decide....

Harleys are wank, no cornering or clearance, horrible design, all bloated like their riders. Even the old Oakland Angels preferred Brit bikes

I have been lucky enough to drive and own a lot of seventies cars, Bentley T1, Pontiac Firebird, Lamborghini Espada, Lotus Europa. Some Italians, Alfa, Fiat, Lancia. Jag V12 XJS, and saloon. MG's Healey, Jenson. I knew people in the business so got to buy cheap and drive lots of stuff that otherwise I couldn't have done.

I think the cars I most miss though are my MK1 VW Cabby and 1972 Fiat 124 Sport. Both were so much fun to own and drive. If I had to have just one though it would have to be the Bentley, just because it was so nice.

Ultimate dream garage would contain a Facel II & an Aston Martin DB4GT.

They'd be the only two I'd keep. But if I had that amount of money, then I'd be at auctions here and in Europe buying stuff monthly, keeping it for a while and selling on. :D

...not any of this Ferrari Daytona or DB5 unrealistic automative tug fodder shite..

Meaning a classic car you can use, if not every day, then at least fairly regularly...?

I'd have the same car Onket links to. Granted, a Delta Integrale would cost a fortune in maintenance, but what a car all the same.

Or perhaps a suitably modified Escort - nothing too extreme, but reasonably quick:

Or a Sierra Cosworth to unleash the inner hooligan:

Or an E-type Jaguar, still IMO the best-looking car ever made:

Or perhaps an old competition car, such as a Metro 6R4:

Finally, I saw an advert for one of these not so long ago:

One of the original works Volvo 242s from 1985, the year they won the European Touring Car series. It was only about thirty grand. Not a very practical road car, but probably an entertaining one.

I've been pretty close to buying a DeTomaso Pantera on about 3 occasions. Unfortunately they are the Citroen Saxo of supercars and it's really hard to find one that hasn't been fucked around. It would have to be a post-'72 GTS model. I really like the mix of Italian style and American muscle. As it has the 351c.i. Ford V8 in it I could do a lot of work on the motor without having to send all of Madame DD's jewelry to cash4gold.com.

There's literally hundreds of bikes I'd like, but right now I'm on the lookout for a '77 or '78 HD XCLR1000.

On a slightly less realisitic note I'd love a '70 Plymouth Superbird.

However even the 440ci 6 pack ones are going for north of $250k now so who knows what you'd have to pay for the rarer and even more fabulous 426ci hemi.

I'd like a Challenger or a Hemi 'Cuda, but that's about all as far as Yank cars go.

I prefer the use of their engines in European cars like the Facel Vega I mentioned earlier or the gorgeous Gorden Keeble:

This blue one was up for sale earlier this year for £40k

Oh well, if we're getting out of the realms of anything vaguely practical I might as well have a vintage Bentley.

A nice 3-litre will do me fine:

Or maybe a 4 1/2:

If someone's a spare half-million or so, though, I'll have my childhood dream car, a Blower Bentley:

Getting back to realistic things, I saw this for sale a few weeks back and am amazed it's still for sale given the price of £1800.

I was sorely tempted just to get out a small loan for it, but my missus wouldn't let me. :(

Volvo Amazon

But seeing how much my car has just cost me this week, it's just as well. :(
