Snow Leopard release date announced

Developers would (or should) of been the only ones with access to SL before launch, and they are subject to an NDA.

Yep. Yet more manufactured whinery by the Register. The GM might have been available for a week on the regular Bit-Torrent places but if you're trying to be a professional Pundit Place like El Reg you have to abide by the rules.

Some web sites may have had sneak peaks but they would have been embargoed until set dates. That El Reg can't understand this simple journalistic concept is a bit suspect... :hmm:

(You have to laugh at the manufactured outrage they feel for being dropped from various jollies because they go around trying to shock... )

According to that article, Wired, MacWorld and the Wall Street Journal appear to have all failed to 'understand this simple journalistic concept' too. I wonder if they got legal threats?

Depends what they (ie Wired, MacWorld and the Wall Street Journal) arranged with Apple.

El Reg, If you bite that hands that feeds you, don't get sulky when you don't get fed...

Depends what they arranged with Apple.
Let's not drag this off topic any further, but your post did need to be corrected. They hadn't arranged anything with Apple.

The Register said that they were "perfectly happy to sign and to comply with NDAs, but we've never had that opportunity with Apple, because as far as we're aware we're consigned to some strange Jobsian hell because of some pronunciation gag."

Anyway, here's two news pieces:

Oh, and you can get the upgrade for £2 cheaper on Amazon:

I know... When I said "they" I meant Wired, MacWorld and the Wall Street Journal...

This is cool : Option (alt) + clicking on the Sync icon in the menu bar brings up tons of info (including diagnostics, last sync time). Not sure if that was in Leopard. :D

So, has anyone found any little "secret" new features they find handy...?

It is amazing how Apple have engineered Snow Leopard. I cannot fault them.

EXCEPT FOR THE MIGHTY MOUSE!
Why oh why is the mighty mouse rollerball totally inaccessible for cleaning?
Why oh why hasn't Apple redesigned this easily clogged up design?

anyone with half a brain throws that piece of shit away and uses a proper mouse with their mac :)

Clogged up with what?

:hmm:

In the 3 years I have owned a mighty mouse, it has remained eminently unclogged and completely, reliably usable.

I can't say that I don't prefer my Logitech mouse all things told, but still...

That is truly fascinating, cheers.

I've just got my copy down the pipe (a legal copy is on its way by post), going to try it tonight, though I'll probably roll back to Leopard as my configuration is pretty tight at the moment and don't need any unnecessary hiccups.

Here's some helpful tips for those upgrading:

I'm finding this : http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/28/...emand-feature/ to be a really handy feature. Its been included before as Wake On Lan, but now its Wake On Wireless Lan. Before I've had to leave my laptop awake all day if I needed to ssh into it to grab something. Now it will wake up even if its not physically attached to the network.

This has made me very happy :) I've been trying WOL for ages - but can't get through my router and I have to use an ethernet lead - which is no good as our place is entirely Airported up. But my router was recently firmware updated and finally supports DMZ, so this should work a treat. My macpro chucks out so much heat, it needs sleeping

How do I roll back again, using Time Machine?
That'd be your best bet. Although I don't know what would happen if you'd already run time machine on your new 10.6 install. To be absolutely sure, I'd keep your 10.5 and 10.6 backup volumes seperate.

Cheers Crispy, I've also got SuperDuper (Cloning software) but I would have to clear my Time Machine partition to use it (). At least then I'd have two partitions, one Leopard and one Snow Leopard... I'll have to think on it.

:)

i've installed my (really cheap) copy and now I can't send emails. The servers are there when I do diagnostics. Everything else seems fine. Maybe it's my ISP although there are no faults on their website (Orange).
