I've started the thread for the WCs for the last five years, so I think responsibility falls on me again. The qualifiers are on at the moment, with the tournament proper beginning on Saturday and the final decided on bank holiday Monday.

The bookies put Selby and Trump as joint favourites (which prevents me doing any kind of hilarious Trump belies all expectations joke), followed by O'Sullivan, Ding and Robertson in that order. O'Sullivan won the Masters without anyone playing that well, so it's difficult to forecast based on major form.

Who else is up for it?

I nearly did one for a few tournaments the last year or so then thought they wouldn't get as many replies (if any) as the worlds or the masters

Did you see China Open Final stavros?

World Snooker Championship: Fergal O'Brien wins longest frame in snooker history to qualify
The previous record was one hour, 40 minutes and 24 seconds.

I mean, what the fuck?!

Jaysis, just seen the Selby v O'Brien score! Simplistic to suggest that 2 hour frame battered O'Brien?

Brecel eh? I like the cut of his jib.. Got a bit of flair at the table. Check out his shiny slippers though!

Fu v brecel is turning into a classic. Amazing how long Fu had been around and playing professionaly, and also playing better than ever as he gets older.still a big fight here... Kind of hope brecel wins, just for the novelty of seeing a new player

"It's all about fractions" is one that grates with me, or "Inch perfect" - an inch is a fucking mile in the precision world of snooker!

Asked if it was a very open tournament last night and whether we'd get a first time winner, Ebdon said yes and that he picked Kyren Wilson to win it, which I thought was sticking his neck out.

Ebdon does not a good pundit make ... must be someone with more personality to go on tv no?

Great to see some new-to-me faces this year....Rory Mcleod totally new to me despite him being 46 years old! That match vs Trump is one Id love to watch the conclusion of (but cant :()
ETA: watched it in my lunch break! Great game.... good tournie so far!

RORY!! What a match. Did it the hard way, so much slogging through the mid match frames. He plays some proper tactical snooker too... Love it!

really hope he goes further now

Doubt it though, tbh. Watched the last two frames and it was compelling stuff. Something like 8 or 9 reds with baulk colours in the final frame. Fair play to that. But he's a terrible break builder, relatively speaking. It can be a painful experience to watch a match with him. Not nicknamed the Dentist for nothing.

hah its that where the nickname comes from :D I ended up watching the whole match, and it's true there was little quick clear ups, but when it came to tough safety play he really held his own.

He certainly wtihstood that trump fight back in the last session.. That frame trump won to go to 8-9 was one of the most intense and aggressive bits of snooker I've seen anyone play. He went for everything and took some huge risks. Great stuff!!

Ronnie on total fire against Shaun...
Rory has a real chance against Stephen Maguire in the underdog fairytale,,,a good draw for him

Second Round (best of 25 frames)
Liang Wenbo (Chn) v Ding Junhui (Chn)
Stuart Bingham (Eng) v Kyren Wilson (Eng)
Shaun Murphy (Eng) v Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng)
Mark Allen (NI) v John Higgins (Sco)
Shaun Murphy (Eng) v Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng)
Stephen Maguire (Sco) v Rory McLeod (Eng)
Mark Selby (Eng) v Xiao Guodong (Chn)
Neil Robertson (Aus) v Marco Fu (HK)
Barry Hawkins (Eng) v Graeme Dott (Sco)

Kyren does not look like he can go all the way to me, this time. Ding meanwhile looks strong... though i think Ding could meet Ronnie next round (not sure about that tbh)

    Mark Allen
