smoking / squat parties

You think I'll have to wait till they ban it completely before I'll be able to smoke in a squat party? :) I think you are just little bit up set about not being allowed to go outside at Tribe of Munt ;)

Kam... not quite following your first sentance, but no... I wasn't one of the ones complaining about not being to go outside at munt. The only thing I wished they'd had was cigs on sale. :)

I was wondering whether outfits like Munt would go into the ban. I guess their venue people maybe more the ones who end up having to make the choice rather than the actual crew.

haha. which sort of party are you more 'free' at, one where you can take your own booze in, or one where you dont stand a significant chance of being mugged or otherwise robbed?

i know which i prefer, anyway. :D

I agree, but it's a real shame it has to come to that. :(

Well you just have to go with what's available don't you. Paolo was asking if it could still be classed as a free party and I don't think it can in the truest sense of the word, similarly, I think they will have to think about the smoking issue if they want to keep parties at that venue borderline legal.

But like I said, I don't begrudge them, they are keeping the tossers out & making parties safer & more enjoyable for everyone. It's just not a free party anymore really.

I`d classify it as "semi-squat"....same crowd just different rules ( well some rules rather than none tbh!).
I don`t think the smoking issue will affect the old bills decisions about " illegal" or " semi-legit " parties , there`s usual more pressing problems like public order offences and licensing laws before they even get down to smoking issues .
I can picture it now......just like the scene out of Animal House where the Dean walks in and everyone splutters and tries to put out fags , inhale smoke and generally look sheepish..!

" No Officer, no-one was smokin` ...honest!"

" I can smell nicotine you little toe-rag...you`re nicked..."

"But officer it was only a littl` rolly!"

" Smells like B&H to me son ....cuff him boys..."

.p.

But if the cops are looking for an excuse to shut a place down & they can use the smoking issue, then I'm sure they will.

I've just had a thought:

Wouldn't a squat party count as a private party in someone's private place of residence?

As far as I can make out the health bill contains the following clause (although I am not sure if this has now been amended):

Smoke-free premises: exemptions
(1) The appropriate national authority may make regulations providing for specified descriptions of premises, or specified areas within specified descriptions of premises, not to be smoke-free despite section 2.
(2) Descriptions of premises which may be specified under subsection (1) include, in particular, any premises where a person has his home, or is living whether permanently or temporarily (including hotels, care homes, and prisons and other places where a person may be detained).
