Smoking ban and live music

free spirit - cheers for that thorough explanation.
no worries

the smoking ban has definately affected the vibe at a lot of club nights, including the ones we run, with there being a fair proportion of the audience outside at any one point. It's particularly noticable at nights that are fairly thin on the ground anyway / smaller venues, as people will generally go out to smoke in groups, and even their mates who don't smoke often seem to leave the dancefloor if their mates aren't there. It seems to be a lot easier for a dj to clear the dancefloor with one wrong tune IMO, as smokers who've been thinking about having a tab all decide to go have one en mass, so the nights can be a bit more stoppy starty (have I jsut made that phrase up?), and it can be harder for the DJ to pick things back up again.

on the flipside it's probably better for ecstacy users (who're also smokers) as they now have an enforced hourlyish break outside for a tab when they'll also be cooling down, so less risk of overheating.

too many people farting though:mad:

I now approve of the smoking ban, i definately appreciated it a few months ago when I almost managed to give up for a few weeks.

Spliffless!

That's going to be harsh for the L*v*ll*rs mega bash (20th anniversary!! ) at the Academy in early March, when there'll be 3 support acts -- all better names than habitual L*v*ll*rs denigrators would be expecting ;)

I can't in all rational honesty object to the ban generally though. It'll still be OK to smoke outdoors at festivals anyway :)

Not being able to have a spliff at a gig is harsh

However, if I smoke a neat skunk spliff beforehand, I really don't need another spliff for about three/four hours anyway

And there are always hash cookies

Job done

:)

Nearer to 200yards in one case, and the band was still too fucking noisy.
So you're saying that you were standing 200 yards outside a venue - a fair way down the street presumably - and it was still "too loud"?

Either you have the hearing sensitivity of a reclusive mouse or you're delivering another Tobyjug FACT!

What is the name of the venue that supposedly allows such damaging volume levels then?

i went to a dub night on Friday, i was wondering how it woudl be affected, it was actually stilll packed and i just never smoked al night (£1 armband to go outside!) So that was alright.

The Albert was rammed for the live Offline show on Saturday too.

I will say that I've had to up the ante to get the smokers in from outside, adding projectors, live bands and decor.

The cold weather helps too! :D

if it was glastonbury main stage, then I'd tend to agree with him (actually the main stage is best heard from as far away as the glade / avalon fields most of the time IMO)
