Exec it is

I'll stock up on combats with suitable pockets to house it!

Kid_Eternity said:LOL! Good solution! I'm tempted but it aint the kind of thing that sits well in a suit inner pocket and if I have it on my hip it'll probably looked like a concealed weapon!![]()

Concealed weapon (or ill sitting) all the way. Hell, I think any PDA/phone sits badly...

Most of Microsoft's smartphones at the moment are built by Taiwanese firm HTC - and there's a new one on the way - for Christmas, says Modaco. It's a hybrid. Half PDA, half Smartphone isn't unusual, but this one is.
Normally, the compromise makes PDA-phones into big lumps (the PDA) with the phone circuit built in. The Blizzard is the size of a phone, but has the giveaway PDA feature - a touch screen.
Surprisingly, the reports (from Germany, and AreaMobile) don't mention music. The prototype picture shows none of the "Play" "Pause" and "Skip" controls seen on the SPV C550 for example.
However, the Blizzard is unlikely to be the only HTC novelty for the year end. It's not even likely to be the only HTC 3G phone.
Yes, it's going to be a 3G phone; and though the AreaMobile pic doesn't show it, it will have a 1.3 megapixel camera. "Although the picture shows Windows Mobile 2003 SE, the device is made possible by the advancements in one handed operation found in Windows Mobile 5," Modaco reported.
LinkO2 announces the launch of the O2 Xda Exec, the first integrated PDA and mobile phone device to feature 3G, offering a completely new look and feel to the highly successful O2 Xda® II range. A laptop replacement device, the new O2 Xda Exec is also the first handheld device to incorporate the Windows Mobile 5.0™ operating system, complete with a laptop style keyboard, making it the ultimate all in one device for the mobile executive.
Since its launch in 2002, the O2 Xda range has grown both in capability and popularity, with more than 140, 000 sold across the UK, Germany and Ireland. The O2 Xda Execs sleek black finish combined with the faster operating system, hi-resolution video camera, tri-band functionality and improved battery life make for the ultimate mobile PDA experience for both business and consumer users, and represents a significant step forward in the O2 Xda range.
The Wireless LAN, 3G and GPRS functionality allows customers to flexibly connect to the Internet, access emails and work on attachments, faster than before, as well as accessing a richer range of content. With longer talk time the O2 Xda Exec allows customers to keep on browsing when they have had enough of work. Pocket PC games are available and customers can download the latest news and music videos or take pictures and video clips with the in-built camera.
Windows Mobile 5.0 enables the O2 Xda Exec to operate more efficiently and offer more flexibility, giving users greater scope to customise the device for external services such as video-conferencing. The updated platform also includes an improved media player, making it easier to transfer songs, videos, and pictures between O2 Xda Exec and PC and persistent memory storage for more efficient data managemen
Kid_Eternity said:It's going to set you back a bit though even on contract. I think (not sure a bit out of the loop this week) it's going to be around £399 and that's with a hefty tarrif (ie 40-50 line rental a month). Not entirely sure that's right but it was something like that last time I looked (about a week or so ago) but then that could all change once it comes out and the TMobile one does because to the usual market dynamics...

Kid_Eternity said:Really? Cool, on their site?
Kid_Eternity said:Yeah I can't find it either but no matter it'll turn up soon enough...now what would make my day is an annoucement on the XDA mini...
Unless it is stupidly stupidly expensive...
EngadgetThey were very stingy with the details, but it looks like Cnet Asia scored some shots of what appears to be a new rev of the HTC Magician (aka iMate JAM, XDA II Mini, MDA Compact, etc.), the world’s smallest Pocket PC phone. We don’t really have any way of knowing for sure what the deal is here or if this even is a second rev and not some fancy limited edition case, but if we had to lay down our money on it we’d assume this is a new device running Windows Mobile 5 (hopefully they equipped it with EDGE and a little more memory while they were at it).

No idea tbh, I had a look at it but it's failed my "no wifi, no deal" criteria! It's a bit old now too it seems but more to the point I don't trust Nokias for some reason, they always look like they'll break down to me...![]()

) but it's a good indicator that it'll out here this side of Christmas (factoring in the fact that o2 is having a big pre-Christmas push with new XDA and other mobiles)...
LinkI met up with representatives of Microsoft's mobile devices group here at DEMOfall 05 today, and one of the new phones they showed me was Sprint's PCS Vision Smart Device PPC-6700. Sprint is trumpeting this as the first phone with Windows Mobile 5.0, Microsoft's recent upgrade to its handheld OS. (The new version aims to be easier to use with one hand, and to deliver better round-tripping of Office documents between phone and PC, among other things--here's my colleague Denny Arar's news story about it.)
But to me, the most interesting thing about the PPC-6700 is its keyboard. It slides out from under the phone's screen, but does so in horizontal orientation, so the keyboard is surprisingly wide. It's not the first phone with a landscape-oriented keyboard, but I was impressed by the size and feel of the keys, which resulted in some of the most comfortable typing I've ever done on a phone. (It's up there with the keyboard on T-Mobile's Sidekick--high praise indeed.)
Another plus with this design: When you slide open the keyboard, the screen rotates into landscape mode, too--which is better than the portrait aspect ratio for stuff like Word and Excel documents and Web pages.
MoreWe hit up a Sony Ericsson product rep at this week’s Apple Expo in Paris (yeah, it’s not just Apple people in attendance), who with a little prodding confirmed for us a couple of rumors about some of their upcoming 3G phones. No (new) pics, but they did reveal that they’re working on a new handset codenamed “Sakura,” which will be an update to their swivel-style S700/S710 phone, and that the “Hermione”, their much-rumored update of the P910, is most definitely on its way.
