Hope not....Tata already do the Rover City car and it's terrible.

Yeah, but a new car for £1300! Even assuming that by the time they got it "European-specced" it had gone up to £2000 or so, its still pretty cheap.

Giles..

Could they actually stop people selling them over here?

Dunno how much shipping on a ship from india would be, but bypass everthing all the usual stuff and flog them on a 'drive em home' basis straight out of the port, 2 grand cash or debit card only.

EU emissions and safety standards would add a lot more than £700 to the cost of it. They talk about "standards" frequently, and never mention whose. They might be able to pull a fast one and get it classed as a quad bike with a roof, if they're clever, and bypass safety and emissions.

The article claims it will hit Euro 4. Dunno about the safety. It's a toughie, because it will be signifcantly safer than a motorbike or pushbike, and possibly safer than a 15 year old car of the type many low income motorists drive at the minute.

EDIT. I'll make the point before someone else does- safer for the occupants. Although potentially such a light vehicle would be safer for pedestrains than a larger car (though obv. not a pushbike)
