Slade are fucking brilliant

Slade are rubbish.

would Jimi Hendrix or John Lennon Nibble Nobby's Nuts or release shit christmas songs. ?
No but Jimi Hendrix did the Star Spangled Banner. In whatever form, with whatever intention, that is an unfailingly rubbish thing to do. Slade wouldna.

Slade are astoundingly good, hugely influential and had immense style - i'm not talking about clothes but their attitude was fantastic - superbly carefree and unapologetic, unafraid to massively rock.....

Crikey! Slade. I was about 10 when they were at their height. I have one of those memories of being that age. One of those Saturday mornings that you look back at and they seem so perfect - driving to the shops in my sister's mini, the outskirts of Brum in 1974, Cum on Feel the Noise coming out of a little speaker and the sights and sounds of my childhood neighbourhood whizzing by, spaghetti on toast for lunch. And I had a neighbour who went out with Dave Hill <quite probably drunken late night rememniscences>

"In For A Penny" is a great song IMO.

i did the p.a. for slade a few years ago... dave hill's in charge and he's a jehovah's witness so nobody dare do anything that would get them in trouble... don powell was an officious up his arse wanker who thought that anything female wanted to shag him (but i did end up with a "don powell" drumstick that i'm planning to auction on ebay one day), and the others just did as they were told. they did a good set though and they're professional as musicians. i've worked with nicer people put it that way ;)

Cos I Luv You is a beautiful song. Superb band.

F'kin' right it is.... As is Skweeze me pleeze me, mama weer all crazee now, Far far away, C'mon feel the noize, How does it feel, In for a penny. Some fucking class tracks without doubt and a f'kin' good few more.

Early Slade Track when they were still Ambrose Slade I grew up in the same village that they practised in and saw them a few times at the local Swimming Baths as Ambrose Slade ...

LOL yes the local baths were the live band venue

Bit psyche ish ^^^^^

Hmm, I'm old enough to have all the classic singles, so that's a bit sad to hear. Maybe that's why Noddy left?

Well, we still have the singles and the crap spelling. And, yes, Far Far Away is a great song.

A Slade fucking rock vote from me.

Despite their perceived image they were very original and spot on for their time. Used to laugh my bollocks off watching Noddy pull up outside Wolves station in his yellow (20 year old) Merc to meet friends and Dave driving his mini metro along the back road from *somewhere* to *somewhere* not far from Wolverhampton.

Pop genius and fucking nice guys with it. Rare you meet top stars and realise they're just ordinary blokes. Class all round for me.

I've got the tape of Ambrose Slade, there's some interesting tracks on it. It's mostly cover versions for the period (late '60s).

I can actually remember them before that, when they were called the N'Betweens. They recorded 'You'd better Run' (originally by the USA band the Young Rascals I thiink). Robert Plant also recorded it around the same time (bout 66 or 67) which made for a bit of local rivalry ;):D

Tolerable - nay, grate!!! - in small doses, but I much perfer fellow Brummies .

They're good too, though I think they have a different appeal. I particularly like "Tonight" and "California Man," two singles from the '70s.

I liked Wizzard too; Roy Wood is a heck of a talented guy.

Guilty, though to be fair I also besmirched T Rex, the Sweet, Elton John and Bowie in the same post :)

Anyway, bumping a Slade thread's fine by me. I only saw them once, at Bailey's in Leicester in early '79. They were good but they'd have been even better IMO if they had played some of their old hits; their whole set was new stuff that I didn't know.

***ROCK TRIVIA ALERT***

Robert Plant, according to my copy of 'Hammer Of The Gods', did in fact audition for Slade at one time, before he was famous. But the other members of Slade, apart from Noddy Holder, didn't like his posing style.

Plant ended up in some down at heel and little-known beat combo called Led Zeppelin, who nobody's heard of since. Wonder what happened to them?

When I was in my early/mid teens, every white girl either loved the Osmonds or David Cassidy.
Every black girl loved the Jackson 5.

Everyone loved Slade.

Mind you, most of us also had a soft spot for Gary Glitter, which says nothing much about our judgment...

They went on to make some really, really shite, over-hyped music. :D

HERESY!!!!!!!!
