It's not harsh as such. We'd just rather not do it, given that we are married and spend literally no time together during the week (she's presently in Vienna). So we like to do things together at weekends.

Incidentally, one of the things we do with our time at weekends is get involved with the local park. We're on the management committee though it's funded by a trust to provide sporting activities to the local community but we have to also make it provitable otherwise the trustees will just sell it to Tescos (no joke). We do that because we enjoy it - my wife does the books and I represent a football club that uses the ground.

I'm in the fortunate position to be able to choose to do that ahead of cleaning, and I do.

Well all the hotbeds of working class heroes got done in by Thatcher and neo liberalism, well except for maybe the Post Office.

Well I'd think earning 13,000 a year keeps me well out of the middle class and it's not like I come from a middle class background either, infact my dad used to be a fitter by trade and a militant shop steward.

You might have a point about many software testers seeing themselves as middle class but thats another issue innit.

Anyway I don't plan to stay in this job, I only took it cos I was unemployed for 9 months. Really wanna go back and get on the academic gravy train, apparently the real world doesn't have much use for philosophy and politics students.

To be honest I don't put much weight on how many times people have seen their team, some of the biggest glory hunting Man Utd fans I know have been to Old Trafford tonnes (they can afford it!), one mate of mine was a Blackburn supporter in the year they won the title and then he changed to Man Utd (he would have been about 18 at this stage) he tried to bring up the fact he's been to Old Trafford more times than me, I mean ffs what a nerve!
